Waze and Renault have joined forces to offer the collaborative GPS application directly through OpenR Link, the diamond brand’s embedded system.
Waze is the reference free social GPS. Motorists appreciate its simple and uncluttered interface and its real-time aspect. To use it on your dashboard, until now you had to synchronize it from your smartphone to be able to use it through Android Auto or CarPlay. Now, if you are the proud owner ofa Renault Megane E-Tech or an Austral Hybrid, you will be able to access Waze in your dashboard without using your mobile.

This integration is the result of a partnership between the diamond brand and Google. OpenR Link, Renault’s embedded system, natively integrates Waze and displays it directly on the large 12-inch OpenR screen of the two electric and/or hybrid cars. The interest is multiple for drivers, who will no longer need to touch their phone to switch from one screen to another, an important consideration when driving. The traditional Google services, Google Maps or Google Assistant, are of course included in the on-board system.
Thanks to OpenR Link, you no longer need a smartphone to use Waze
Notifications, alerts, alternate routes in real time: the features offered by thededicated Waze app are exactly identical to those found on our smartphones. To download and install Waze for OpenR Link, users need to go to Android Automotive OS app store (accessible from the My Renault app or in their car’s OpenR Link interface).

Whether Renault is the first company to offer Waze directly in standalone version, more and more car manufacturers are integrating Android Automotive OS, the on-board operating system for cars. The latter is quite distinct from Android Auto, which requires connecting with a smartphone. The specialized press evokes the names of Honda, Volvo, Chevrolet, or even General Motors.
