Waze will report charging points

Although it is not as popular as Google Maps, Waze has been, for years, the preferred choice for a large number of drivers who want to use a mapping service when traveling on the road. And the truth is that there are a huge number of reasons for this, although probably the most notable is that, despite the fact that both services belong to the same company, many features debuting first in Wazeand only later do they make the leap to Google Maps.

This is not something new, far from it. A perfect example of this can be found in the fact that, despite the fact that the search engine company acquired Waze in 2013, it was not until six years later, in 2019, that it began to bring some of its most popular functions to Maps from this service, such as the information on maximum speeds and speed cameras on the road. A delay for which, to be honest, it is very difficult to find an explanation, since they are functions highly demanded by users.

Yes, we can find the reason that Waze is ahead in terms of the sum of functions in its origins, because it has always been a collaborative service, in which user contributions are key. In this regard, on a personal note, I remember having downloaded the app in its early days and, on more than one road trip (mainly secondary, of course), having been “drawing” their layout on the Waze map, which I didn’t have them yet.

An unwritten tradition of the service is to add at least one new feature every month, and this time we have a feature that will be more than welcome by electric car drivers. And it is that, as we can read in this publication of his official blog, Waze has already started showing information about charging points. This function does not yet have global scope, but according to what we can read in said publication «This feature will roll out globally in the coming weeks. So you won’t have to wait long.

A problem commonly experienced by pure electric and plug-in hybrid drivers is that the information on charging points is not as reliable as it should be, and this is where the collaborative model of this service, with its local editors, becomes in a great virtue and a differential factor, since these will be able to provide real-time information about themwhich will immediately reach the rest of the drivers who use the service.
