Western Digital launches the 20 TB WD Red Pro NAS, we see their keys

The American giant has confirmed the launch of the 20 TB WD Red Pro NAS in Spain, a new series of professional HDD storage units (hard disks) that use OptiNAND technology, and that are designed to offer a high level of performance and total reliability even in environments with 24/7 workloads.

Its high storage capacity also represents an important value, and we are talking about a total of 20 TB per unit, a figure that will allow us to store large amounts of dataand also very large files, including everything from high resolution videos to 3D modeling and rendering projects, as well as scientific simulations and artistic designs.

WD Red Pro NAS versus traditional hard drives: This is how they make a difference

The new WD Red Pro 20TB NAS hard drives are specifically designed to work optimally in NAS systems, delivering high performance and high reliability even in the most challenging conditions. To achieve these two goals, the WD Red Pro 20TB NAS integrate a series of keys that make a big differenceand that places them on a totally different level from conventional HDDs:

  • They have been thoroughly tested to ensure full compatibility and optimal performance.
  • They have passed numerous reliability and stability tests in conditions that are not typical for a conventional hard drive.
  • They have a RAID error recovery system that reduces failure rates in any NAS system.
  • They integrate protection against noise and vibrations, which allows to maintain a high level of performance and maximizes the useful life of the unit.
  • They are optimized for multi-user environments, and to handle high-intensity workloads 24/7.
  • They have the exclusive NASware 3.0 firmware technology, which facilitates seamless integration and improves performance by betting on greater integration, scalability and reliability.
  • They have a multi-axis sensor that automatically detects any shock, no matter how small, and makes the necessary adjustments to protect and ensure the integrity of the data.
  • Five year warranty.

The 20TB WD Red Pro NAS uses CMR recording technology, connects via the SATA III (6 Gbps) interface, and comes in a 3.5-inch form factor. They reach speeds of up to 268 MB/s, have 512 MB of cache, and their platters spin at a speed of 7,200 RPM. Its maximum duty cycle per year is 300 TB. Its price is €899a high figure but according to its benefits, and it is clear that the WD Red Pro NAS they don’t play in the same league as conventional HDDs.
