Valve reveals the procedure to follow to play the new Portal spin-off directly on PC, without going through the Steam Deck.
A few days ago, Valve unveiled the trailer for a brand new Portal game, although it’s really just a short spin-off and not the highly anticipated Portal 3. While the company says Steam Deck exclusives will never be considered, this new game, named Aperture Desk Job, is however designed specifically for the hybrid machine. It is not a coincidence that it was announced the day of the release of the device.
On the game’s product sheet, it is clearly marked that it is available for free, but also that keyboards/mouse are not supported. Aperture Desk Job can only be played with a controller, including the Steam Deck’s built-in controllers. So that means the game is well playable on standard PC, even if it’s not with the controller you usually use. To do this, you just need to make sure that Steam recognizes your controller model.
Once launched, you can enjoy this mini-game, which only lasts about thirty minutes in total. In Aperture Desk Job, you play as a moody employee whose job is to pass quality control tests on items that come out of a factory. A promise of simplistic and not very entertaining gameplay, even if we can always count on Valve to find something to amuse us, even with such a short game.
