When the creator of Dark Souls talks about the difficulty of Elden Ring

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the Dark Souls games, reassures us about the difficulty of Elden Ring just before its release.

This is one of the most anticipated games of this year 2022. Elden Ringthe new RPG imagined jointly by the famous author George RR Martin (Game Of Thrones) and Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator of the games Dark Souls, already promises to offer us an extraordinary fantastic adventure. The latter, in an interview with Sony, tells us a little more about the difficulty of the title… compared to the souls Of course.

A reputation that scares even the bravest

The creator of Elden Ring states at the outset that players should not expect the same level of difficulty as in a Dark Souls original. Indeed, unlike Sekiro: Shadow Die Twicedeveloped by FromSoftware but which was also particularly tough, Elden Ring rests on a slightly less challenging gameplay. Hidetaka Miyazaki explains as follows:

I would like new players not to put pressure on themselves and to understand that they can approach the game at their own pace. I realize that we offer games with a rather high level of difficulty, but they are designed to give you a powerful sense of accomplishment when you have completed these challenges. However, new players need not worry about this difficulty.

I know that Souls-like games have a reputation for offering crazy difficulty levels and that it would be very difficult to get started. But we try to design games that make you appreciate this routine of constant effort to overcome a challenge. We hope to achieve this goal with Elden Ring and all the new options available. We didn’t knowingly lower the difficulty of the game, but I think more people will manage to complete it this time. »

A surmountable challenge

So you have been warned. In Elden Ring, the focus is more on the freedom that the open world offers rather than the challenge of the gameplay. However, don’t expect a restless adventure, you will probably need to arm yourself with courage and patience, but at least you can take the obstacles at your own pace, a clear advantage compared to the studio’s other games.

“We’re not trying to make the game difficult or complicate things just for the fun of it. We want to push players to be smart. –Hidetaka Miyazaki

An approaching release date

Elden Ring will only have to wait a handful of weeks. From here February 25, the game will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC for fans to enjoy. It seems that all the closed-network tests held prior to the game’s release were successful for both players and developers. So we can’t wait to get our hands on it officially!
