Will Margot Robbie really replace Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 6?

Since the legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard began, we have all been aware of the progress made in the trial that began last April 2022. One of the statements that hurt the actor’s fans the most responsible for tapes like Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood either Alice in Wonderland was that Johnny Depp has no plans to return to the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. According to the interpreter himself, he would not return to being Captain Jack Sparrow even if Disney paid him an unreal amount of money… and a million alpacas.

The pirates move on

With this in mind, we must remember that a couple of years ago, in 2020, it was announced that a sixth installment of the acclaimed franchise was in development, although without Depp at the controls of the ship. As a new protagonist we would have the actress Margott Robbie, known for bringing Harley Quinn to life within the DC Universe, or for films like The wolf of Wall Street either once upon a time in hollywood. The script for the film would be in charge of Christina Hodson, who had previously worked with Robbie, as the person in charge of the plot of birds of prey.

The surprise came a few hours ago, when Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the most important producers in Hollywood and one of the architects of Pirates of the Caribbean, about the franchise. During an interview to promote Top Gun Maverick he was asked if the sixth installment was still underway. To the delight of the fans, he not only reaffirmed that the production was still going on, but also there would be another project of the saga on the way.

Jack Sparrow vs. Margott Robbie

That’s when fans began to speculate. To date, it is unknown in what format the second project will be carried out, so some fans of the Disney world they have theorized that it could be a series for Disney +. As a result of this, there are those who connect the statements of Johnny Depp in the trial about not returning to the films of Pirates of the Caribbean with the fact that it can be a series.

Technically speaking, Depp would not be lying since he would return to a series and not to a movie, which, if true, hopefully serves, at least, as a farewell to the legendary pirate captain. The one he hasn’t had in commercial theaters. Another option being considered is for him to be a spin off derived from the new movie, similar to what Marvel Studios did with the series of Threw outwhich is taken directly from the miniseries starring hawk eyen, so it wouldn’t be a strange practice for Disney.

Whatever happens in the end, we can only be happy that Disney decides to give us new content from one of its most profitable franchises and acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

And you? Are you looking forward to seeing these two new projects from Pirates of the Caribbean?
