Season 2 of The Witcher has just landed on Netflix and season 3 is already written according to the creator.
They are back. After two years of absence, Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri have once again invaded our screens with the second season of their adventures. A new burst of particularly anticipated episodes which was made available to Netflix subscribers this Friday, December 17. If like us you devoured the 8 episodes of this season 2 of The witcher, you are probably wondering when we will find the characters.
If the platform is rather discreet on its calendar, especially several months in advance, the designer has provided some answers. During an interview for TechRadar in early December, Lauren Schmidt Hissirch confirmed that the writing of the screenplay was well completed. The series is therefore on the right track.
An even more spectacular season 3
Since its inception, the series has followed the narration of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. This second round of episodes was therefore adapted from the blood of the elves (first real part of the saga The witcher) while season 1 was inspired by the collection of short stories The Last Wish. Season 3 will therefore be devoted to Time of Contempt. While the hour is no longer for cordial understanding between kings and magi, something is brewing. Ciri finds herself at the heart of the rivalry. Will Geralt be able to save her?
If the showrunner was careful not to reveal plot elements of this new season, she did not miss the opportunity to recall her enthusiasm at the idea of bringing the new adventures of the characters to the screen. “I feel like Season 1 and 2 set the stage for everything that is about to happen. But the process of creation has only just begun. I am really happy with the way the season is going because it is based on my favorite book from the saga ”.
From December 2022?
It remains to be seen from now on when this return to our screens will take place. If the pandemic has largely delayed the development of season 2, we can hope not to have to wait that long. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich did not move forward on the calendar, but gave some details on what follows. “The creative process has just started. We have the scripts and now we’re going to bring the directors back, the actors, and start to really dig deep and think to make sure it’s the perfect season ”.
Nothing is settled, but we hope that the magic will operate again and that the journey will not stop there. As a reminder, the literary saga is made up of 5 main novels and three collections of short stories. These are all books that the series could adapt over the years, so we have not finished hearing about Geralt de Riv and all his clique of more or less merry men.
Another series in development
If season 3 is delayed, we will have other projects of the genre to console ourselves. Netflix and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich are also developing a series derived from the adventures of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer. Baptized Blood Origin, she will explore the elven era, more than 1200 years before the adventures of the Witcher. It will be a question of going back to the origins of the monster hunters and discovering more about the conjunction of the spheres, an important part of this new season. Currently filming, the series should land in the coming months. Michelle Yeoh (Tiger and Dragon) and Jacob Collins-levy (Doctor Who) are especially announced at the casting.
Also note that another animated film is on the program, after The Wolf’s Nightmare. Even the youngest subscribers will have the right to discover the universe with an animated series intended for children.
