Windows 11: a long-awaited taskbar feature won’t arrive until the end of 2022

Windows 11’s taskbar crawls with a number of small bugs or frustrating limitations, like the inability to drag and drop an icon on it. This feature is expected to arrive on the operating system towards the end of 2022.

Windows 11 Desktop Start Menu

Windows 11 offers a whole new design for the operating system and puts the taskbar back at the center of use. It was not taken from Windows 10, since it was developed from scratch by Microsoft.

This therefore leads to the appearance of a multitude of bugs (which the Redmond firm hastens to correct as soon as they are spotted) but also unexpected limitations. For example, it is no longer possible to place its taskbar elsewhere than in the lower part of the screen. In addition, the fact of dragging then dropping an icon on the bar no longer works.

Windows 11 will improve its taskbar in 2022

As Windows Latest notes, Microsoft has heard complaints from frustrated users that they cannot regain basic functionality on their new OS. The site thus specifies that the thing will be delivered soon within the operating system. However, you should not be too impatient since this novelty should be included in Windows 11 version 22H2, or the big update which is published around October. The taskbar has been developed from scratch, so adding this all-important feature takes time.

The lack of drag & drop isn’t the only thing users criticize this taskbar for. Many bugs have indeed already been reported. For example, the battery display on laptops is often incorrect, exceeding 100%. Likewise, it sometimes happens that this bar starts to flash for no reason for a few seconds or that the information texts (when the cursor remains in position on an icon) are displayed in any way. Microsoft is working on these bugs which will be fixed in updates. Improvements have also already been announced, such as the time display on secondary screens when you have multiple displays.

Note that if you want to find the design of old Windows, developers have already designed tools that allow you to find a vintage taskbar.
