Windows 11 has a new default line of code tool: Windows Terminal

In the latest test build that members of the Windows 11 Insider Program have had access to, there is a new command-line tool by default. This is Windows Terminal, and as Microsoft details in a post on the Windows Blog, from its implementation in the final version of Windows 11, all command line applications, including the Line Prompt and PowerShell, they will open directly and automatically in Windows Terminal. For now this is only happening to members of the Developer Channel, which gives early access to new features.

Launched in 2019, Windows Terminal offers a modern, up-to-date replacement for the decades-old Windows Console. With Terminal, users will have access to several new features. Among them the possibility of having several tabs and panels. Also to the ability to generate themes and customize the text, colors, backgrounds and shortcuts.

Of course, the change will only affect you for now if you have installed WindowsTerminal 1.15, which can be downloaded from GitHub for now, and you’re a member of the Windows Early Access Program. However, Microsoft wants to start rolling out its deployment to more cases soon, and make Windows Terminal the default Windows 11 command line at some point. before the end of 2022.

Of course, in the case of computers that do not have Windows 11 installed, they will continue with their command line as before: with the Windows Console as the default tool for the command line. In case you do have Windows 11 and Windows Terminal arrives, there is a possibility to disable it.

To do this, simply open the Settings menu and choose the Privacy and security and For developers options. In the menu that appears is the option to get rid of Windows Terminal. Then the process will be reversed, and you will be back in the Windows Console. It is also possible to use other alternative tools, such as Microsoft PowerShell, Cmdr or Xshell, among others.
