wireless charging is incredibly slow compared to the Galaxy S22, better be patient

We knew that Samsung had limited the power of fast charging on its Galaxy S23. We now know how much this slows down the process. It takes 2 hours and 37 minutes for the Ultra model to go from 0 to 100% autonomy in wireless charging, almost 40 minutes more than its predecessor.

Galaxy S23 Ultra

When the Galaxy S23 was released, many agreed that the smartphone mimicked its predecessor in many ways — which makes it a great device, by the way. However, some changes are also worth noting, and not necessarily in a good way. Wireless charging, in addition, has been impacted. While it was limited to 15W on the Galaxy S22, it now reaches a maximum of 10W for the new model.

However, there is a nuance to add. By using a Samsung wireless charger, we do indeed benefit from 15W power – which is already a step back in itself. We could therefore, legitimately, think that the Galaxy S23 recharged as quickly on the S22 with this 15W charger. Unfortunately it is not soas shown by tests conducted by our colleagues at Phone Arena.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra takes 40 minutes longer to charge wirelessly than the S22 Ultra

The results obtained by the Ultra model are undoubtedly the most telling. In fact, it is necessary 2 hours and 37 minutes to the smartphone to go from 0% to 100% autonomy with the 15 W wireless charger. It’s almost 40 minutes longer than its predecessor, which only needs 1 hour and 28 minutes. The situation is hardly better for the rest of the range. The Galaxy S23 Plus (1:48) and the Galaxy S23 (1 h 40) both take longer to charge than their 2022 counterparts (1:33 and 1:24 respectively).

In other words, everything seems to indicate that Samsung has deliberately capped the wireless charging power for its new smartphones below 15 W. It is now common knowledge that the manufacturer is keen to preserve battery life and it is therefore not surprising that this one seeks to reduce the heat emitted by its chargers. However, with these results, the Galaxy S23 are the slowest high-end smartphones in this areathe iPhone 14 Pro max taking 2 hours and 35 minutes to recharge under these conditions.
