Xbox app takes inspiration from Instagram with the addition of Stories

Microsoft has just unveiled the new additions coming to the Xbox ecosystem in May 2022. This month, the manufacturer is focusing its efforts on the Xbox mobile application. Drawing inspiration directly from Instagram or Snapchat, it will now be possible on the app to create, share and watch stories.

Since the launch of the Xbox Series X in November 2020, Microsoft has multiplied updates to improve the services available on its next-generation consoles. Since the beginning of April 2022, it has for example been possible to control your TV via the controller, while the update published in March 2022 introduced improvements to the Quick Resume side, the Xbox Share button and a new audio assistant.

For this month of May 2022, Microsoft has decided to focus its efforts on the Xbox mobile app. The goal of the thing: to make the user experience even more connected, in particular by eyeing the side of Instagram and Snapchat. In effect, the update adds a News Feed in the form of Stories to the Xbox app on Android and iOS.

Xbox app adds Instagram-style Stories

In fact, users will be able to create, share and watch stories with your friends in the app. “You can share your favorite moments with your friends and the Xbox community via video clips, screenshots and your Achievements. You will also be able to reply to your friends’ stories with a message or a quick reaction. explains the Redmond firm on its official website.

As Microsoft specifies, the stories will be accessible on the right of the app’s home screen. To create a story, simply press the + button on your Gamertag from the Stories section. Then select the video clip, screenshot or Achievement you want to post. This Stories section will display content posted by your friends in the last 72 hours. and anything you share will also be posted to your profile newsfeed. First available in Australia, this feature will soon arrive in France.

In parallel with this Stories section, Microsoft is also integrating a new system called Service quality. This tab will allow you to set priorities regarding latency, in particular for group chat, streaming from your console or even multiplayer. “This will help protect your gaming experience from issues caused by traffic jams on compatible networks.” details Microsoft.
