As you probably know, the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King (ABK) was finalized on October 13, 2023. Since this date, the American publisher behind particularly lucrative franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft or Candy Crush is officially the property of the Redmond firm.

For Microsoft, it is now a matter of making this merger profitable, which as a reminder cost it a whopping $69 billion. As said above, the American giant is now the manager of prestigious licenses like Call of Duty or Fallout. (Clonazepam) Already well established in the PC and console video game market, this acquisition above all represents a dream opportunity for Microsoft to establish its dominance in the mobile gaming market.

Becoming number 1 in mobile gaming, a necessity for Microsoft

During a recent podcast on the official Xbox YouTube channel, the boss of the gaming division Phil Spencer spoke on the subject. For him and after spending so much money, it is now essential for Microsoft to establish itself in this growing market : “I’m really looking forward to learning on mobile. The truth is, if you want to continue to be relevant in gaming on a global scale, you’re going to have to find a way to be relevant on the biggest platform, which is mobile,” did he declare.

This does not mean, however, that we will have the right to mobile game variations of all the licenses in the ABK catalog. On this point, Phil Spencer was clear: “This doesn’t mean that I want to turn all our franchises into mobile franchises, it doesn’t mean that there will only be free-to-play. I think that the diversity of our distribution and our business model is a strength of the company,” he believes.

Like Xbox, which offers games for sale, via a subscription with Game Pass or even free-to-play, Microsoft wants to take the same approach for the mobile gaming sector. If Phil Spencer did not go into detail, we could for example expect to find mobile games on Xbox Game Pass (or perhaps a formula dedicated exclusively to mobile gaming like the PC with the PC Game Pass), or even to paid mobile titles accessible only via the future gaming application store for Android and iOS from Microsoft.
