According to new information from the leaker Digital Chat Station, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could share a photo configuration very similar to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra of 2021. Indeed, we know that the new model will always rely on three cameras, with a 50 MP main sensora captor 48 MP ultra wide-angle and a 48 MP periscope.

However, Xiaomi is going to use a new main sensor of almost 1 inch, the IMX989. The latter promises to be much more efficient than the previous generation ISOCELL GN2. It’s currently unknown if the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will continue to use two IMX586 sensors for ultra-wide-angle and periscope, but according to Digital Chat Station, the latter should retain a maximum optical zoom of 5x. Since Xiaomi only uses 3 sensors on the back of its smartphone, using a more powerful 10x zoom like on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra would make the smartphone less interesting for close-range zooms.

Digital Chat Station already announces that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will offer 120x maximum digital zoom, 12-120mm focal length and f/1.95-4.1 aperturewhich directly coincides with the current Ultra.

12-120mm refers to the optical distance covered between the 48 MP 12mm equivalent ultra-wide-angle and the 48 MP 120mm telephoto lens. Other numbers refer to camera lens apertures. The IMX989 sensor will have a focal length of f/1.95, and the periscope will have a focal length of f/4.1.

We also know that Xiaomi will join Leica for the first time for the photo, thus taking advantage of the filters and the know-how of the specialized company. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra will also use a new in-house ISP from Xiaomi, the Surge C2 chip. It will be a direct successor to the Surge C1 chip that was used in the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold of 2021. Like the MariSilicon X chip of the Oppo Find X5 Pro, it will allow Xiaomi toimprove the quality of photos captured by your smartphone top of the line.
