Xiaomi plans to manufacture 300,000 electric cars a year

Rumored for years now, but gaining strength since the beginning of this year, it seems that Xiaomi’s electric car is finally ready to go into production, the company itself having shared its opening plans for its first factory in China, with which a first capacity is expected to produce up to 300,000 vehicles each year. Although unfortunately it will still take years for us to see the car on the streets.

This has been collected from Reuters, who show us the statements of the representatives of the brand and the Chinese capital, who advance a small change with respect to the original plans, moving this factory as well as its sales and research offices from the plant of Great Wall in Hong Kong, until Beijing E-Town District Economic and Technological Development Zone, a business and technological development zone promoted by the Chinese administration.

The factory will be built in two phases, and although the company has not wanted to go into further details about this process, for the moment the date of completion and start of production will be delayed until at least 2024. Thus, this first factory will be one of the cornerstones of Xiaomi’s plan for vehicles from invest $ 10 billion in its electric car division over the next 10 years.

Specifically, the company seems to be looking for a sequential plan, with a more modest first phase of production in which it will only take out 150,000 vehicles a year, thus testing the reception of these cars. Unfortunately, at the moment the duration of the event has not been specified.

Moving on to Xiaomi’s own electric car, this vehicle is expected to have its own technology, as well as its own design, so we should not expect to see any other vehicles rebranded or simply equipped with these new features. And it is that although this may seem a much more complex task, China’s own local government has begun to offer significant financial support to promote these new projects.

In fact, this last detail has set off some of the alarms, since it could imply that Xiaomi’s electric car ends up targeting exclusively for the Asian continent. Even so, given the great expansion and relevance of the company worldwide, the great expectation, and the still little competition from this sector until the arrival of other participants such as Apple, We have no doubt that Xiaomi is aiming for a large-scale expansion.
