Xiaomi presents its new 13 series smartphones

True to its annual appointment in December, although a few days later than expected, the new Xiaomi 13 smartphones have been presented in China and will be available in the first quarter of 2023 on the international market. The Xiaomi 13 arrive in two initial versions (maybe others will arrive in the future such as the ‘Lite’ or the ‘Ultra’), a base with a screen and flat edges and a PRO version with a curved design and more powerful cameras.

The Chinese firm is making a strong commitment to start with a base version with 6.36-inch OLED screen, Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an astonishingly high maximum brightness of 1900 nits. Its engine is the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm’s most advanced in mobile chipsets for the first part of 2023. This version will offer various configurations of RAM and storage up to 12 Gbytes LPDDR5 and integrated storage of up to 512 Gbytes.

Xiaomi continues the collaboration with the specialist Leica for its camera system, highlighting a 50-megapixel main camera with optical stabilization, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. The front for selfies mounts a 32 megapixel sensor.

Under the hood is a 4500 mAh battery that enables 67-watt wired charging, 50-watt wireless and 10-watt reverse charging. The series launches software, specifically the MIUI 14 user interface designed on Android 13. It will be available in various color finishes (green, white, black or blue) with a price that starts at 3,999 yuan in China, 570 dollars to change.

The most advanced version raises the level of the screen with a panel 6.73-inch curved OLED and a native resolution of 3200 x 1400 pixels. Its internal configuration is the same as the base model, a SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Its frame is also curved, it is IP68 certified against dust and water, and its rear panel can be made of ceramic or synthetic leather.

The camera system is also enhanced with a main sensor signed by Sony of enormous size (1 inch) with a resolution of 50 megapixels. The ultra wide angle is also 50 MP, as well as the optically stabilized telephoto lens with a maximum zoom of 70x. The front is the same, 32 MP.

The battery is larger (4820 mAh) and supports 120-watt fast charging and also wireless. With the MIUI 14 and Android 13 interface, color finishes in white, black, green or blue, the terminal is priced in China at 4,999 yuan, around 720 dollars. We do not believe that Xiaomi will take too long to announce its new top-of-the-range smartphones for the international market. There we will know the official prices (higher than those of China for sure), colors and configurations.
