Sony has announced its brand new flagship smartphone, its “flagship”. This is the Xperia 1 IV. If it has an attractive technical sheet, it seeks to stand out from the competition thanks to its video part. Sony indeed promises a terminal capable of filming in 4K and at 120 frames per second, a unique case.
In a market where high-end smartphones all tend to look the same, you have to find the point on which to stand out, the functionality that will attract the public. For its new Xperia 1 IV, Sony puts the package on the video part with a capable terminal to film in 4K and 120 frames per second.
The Xperia 1 IV offers a very wise design with abrupt lines and a black, white or purple glass shell. It weighs 185 grams and is water and dust resistant. Note that there is a 3.5 mm jack port on the edges. It has a 6.5 inch OLED panel which has the particularity of opting for a 21: 9 format and a maximum definition of 3840 x 1644 pixels. Of course, the screen has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which is the norm today on the high end.
A smartphone with the technical sheet on steroids
The Xperia 1 IV is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the most powerful on the market, as well as 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Its battery is 5000 mAh, but the charger is not provided in the box. On the software side, we find Android 12 with some proprietary features made in Sony, such as compatibility with Remote Play on PS5.

It is on the side of the photo, and especially the video that the Xperia 1 IV seeks to stand out. It is endowed with three 12-megapixel sensors designed by Zeiss. We should not rely on pure numbers, since Sony promises photo quality that exceeds the competition with an extremely responsive autofocus, a hybrid X15 zoom and a night mode that promises a lot. The video part is not to be outdone with the possibility of filming in 4K/120 FPS with all lenses, object tracking or auto focus again like on the latest iPhones. Of course, we will have to see what all this gives in everyday life during our test.
The Sony Xperia 1 IV will be released in France during the month of June at a price of 1399 euros.
