YouTube Music will redesign its interface in the style of Spotify: with a side panel

YouTube Music has advantages and disadvantages compared to its competition and among the latter is an interface that despite having improved considerably over time, still lacks important practical elements and, what is worse, common to all music applications that self-respect Fortunately, a design hit is coming to end the inconsistencies.

Just in case, I repeat it: we are talking about the YouTube Music web application, the default on PC because there is no -official, it is understood- more, go ahead. The service’s mobile app has received a lot more attention -something moreover normal in this type of service- and today it is quite fixed, nothing else can be said because it would not be true, although for tastes, colors, that yes usually say.

What’s wrong with the YouTube Music interface on the web? Its most notable flaw is the obligation to be browsing between pages, one after the other, to reach certain sites. For example: you enter YouTube Music and to access your playlists, unless you have listened to the one you want in the last few days, you will have to navigate a bit, and it will depend on what you are looking for, more or less.

Total, you open YouTube Music and enter your library, organized on the first level in two tabs: library and uploads; On a second level there are already the playlists, songs, albums and artists that you have added and that are not the same if you choose one or the other of the upper tabs (library and uploads), although if you are one of those who do not upload music own to the service you will have it easier.

The point is that if the last time you entered your library was to search for an album of yours (that is, you entered “uploads> albums”), the next time you return you will continue to enter there directly, then you will have to go back in the section to access another filter. This behavior, which at times can be useful, others results in a nuisance and most likely you will end up using the search engine for everything.

Well, take a look at the following image, published by 9to5Google as a preview of the redesign of YouTube Music that will alleviate the situation described (and compare it with the one above, which shows the new interface collapsed, more similar to what it looks like now):

As you can see, it will integrate a side panel on YouTube Music in which, in addition to the three main sections (home, explore and library) all the playlists will be located, including the possibility of setting other content such as upcoming podcasts and, above these, a button with which to create more faster.

As explained in 9to5Google, the panel will be collapsed by default, so you will have to click to open it, but once open it will allow «scroll through 50 recent playlists with music and new podcast episodes at the top«. It wasn’t that hard to get it right, or rather it was because it’s something that’s been missing since YouTube Music got going, almost seven years ago.

It is not known when this novelty will arrive, but it will do so after YouTube receives its own retouching. In any case, the change is there and, while they continue to test and refine it, all that remains is to wait.
