Zaragoza wants to become a benchmark for eHealth

Saragossa consolidates itself as a city of reference at a national level in digital health. The Aragón eHealth Open Innovation Summit has closed its first edition, becoming a new space for startups, large companies and entrepreneurs to draw the future of health through innovation and new technologies.

An initiative that has been organized by ICES Zaragoza through Grupo Init and the Aragonese Development Institute of the Government of Aragon, with the collaboration of Day One Caixabank. In this way, Zaragoza presents its firm candidacy to be a benchmark city in the digital health ecosystem in Spain.

30 applications

The event, open to startups from all the regions of the Ebro Basin, has received 30 applications from Aragon, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Catalonia, La Rioja and Navarra, of which finally 16 technological projects have been selected applicable to the world of health.

These eHeatlh solutions have been examined by a jury made up of executives from renowned corporations linked to the social and healthcare field, such as the insurers DKV and AON, the pharmaceutical companies Novaltia and Cofares, Grupo Social Once, the Hospitalaria Hernán Cortés group and Biosalud Day Hospital, Laboratorios Argenol, CPA Salduie, Qida, Más Prevención, DNV, Residencia Campo Romanos, the investment funds Clave Capital and Iunctio, Ibernex and Aragón Exterior (AREX).

These same companies have been responsible for proposing to startups various digital health challenges for those looking for innovative ideas, from which to develop joint projects that have a real application for patients and users.

Among all the proposals presented, that of the Aragonese SCAMAdeclared the winner of the Aragon eHealth Open Innovation Summit at the Demo Day held this October 24 at CIEM Zaragoza, within the framework of the Aragon Entrepreneurship Week.

Their project, which offers a digital tool based on motion capture to reduce joint injuries in workers, will become part of an acceleration process supported by major firms in the digital health industry.

“CIEM Zaragoza is an open innovation ecosystem and one of the samples has been this first edition of the Aragón eHealh Open Innovation Summit, whose objective has been to connect the needs, opportunities and interests of powerful companies in the field of health with innovative solutions and disruptive solutions that 30 startups belonging to the autonomous communities of Valle del Ebro have offered them. Among the challenges posed by the 16 companies on the jury have been the search for solutions to improve the user experience, the application of disruptive technology for early diagnoses or the automation of data in the health and pharmaceutical fields”stand out from CIEM Zaragoza.

In the words of the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Employment of the Zaragoza City Council, Carmen Herrarte: «CIEM is the model in which we at Zaragoza City Council believe, because for startups and companies to be sustainable, they must also be sustainable from an economic point of view. All the projects that have applied to this call are responding to real challenges of large corporations and will be viable because they come from startups that are economically viable. Many thanks to those companies that believe in open innovation, because it is the future. Thank you also to the companies that are behind financing them, because without capital, without investment, there are no companies that get ahead».

Resounding success in his first call

The first Aragón eHealth Open Innovation Summit call was born with the aim of promoting, making visible and promoting open innovation in digital health in Aragón, as well as to create a new reference space for companies, startups and investors focused on this field.

In this way, CIEM Zaragoza, as an open innovation ecosystem integrated with Etopia Centro de Arte y Tecnología, reinforces its involvement with the Aragonese entrepreneurial fabric and takes a new step to position itself as one of the relevant technology hubs in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
