Thanks to a new privacy feature introduced in macOS Monterey, the error could be detected. This feature displays an orange dot in the menu bar on Macs when an app is using the microphone. From the developer of Zoom, they have clarified that there was indeed a bug in their macOS app that could cause the orange microphone in use indicator to appear on even after leaving a connection. They assure that after the new update, said bug has been fixed.
