Goodbye connection problems! NETGEAR launches RS700 router with Wi-Fi 7

The manufacturer NETGEAR has presented what will be its first wifi router 7 of the brand, and it will be available sooner than we think, since we can buy it in the month of June to speed up our wireless network with the new standard. This new NETGEAR RS700 It represents an evolution of the Wi-Fi 6E routers that the manufacturer has, since by incorporating the new standard we are also going to have a complete renovation of the internal hardware, so we are going to obtain great performance in every way. Do you want to know what are the main features of this new router?

Main features

This new NETGEAR RS700 router has really powerful hardware, in fact, it incorporates a Broadcom BCM6726 and BCM67263 chipset to provide the best possible performance. The main processor is a Quad-Core and it works at a speed of 2.6GHz, so the performance in all aspects will be really spectacular. In addition, we will have 1GB of RAM memory and a total of 512MB of FLASH memory.

wireless features

The main wireless features of this router is that it has simultaneous triple band with Wi-Fi 7. In the 2.4GHz band we can get one speed up to 1.4Gbps, thanks to its four internal antennas in MU-MIMO 4T4R configuration, 40MHz channel width and the new Wi-Fi 7 standard that incorporates 4096-QAM. In the 5GHz band we can get one speed up to 5.8Gbps, thanks to its four internal antennas in MU-MIMO 4T4R configuration, 160MHz channel width and the new Wi-Fi 7 standard that incorporates 4096-QAM. Finally, in the 6GHz band we can get one speed up to 11.5Gbpsthanks to its four internal antennas in MU-MIMO 4T4R configuration, 320MHz channel width and the new Wi-Fi 7 standard that incorporates 4096-QAM.

This router incorporates all the technologies of the Wi-Fi 7 standard, such as OFDMA enhanced for both download and upload, the MU-MIMO, and also Beamforming among other technologies that improve the coverage and wireless performance of this router. The chipset that mounts this router supports MLO (Multi-Link Operation), but it will only be available at the end of the year when the compatible firmware is released. Finally, it has ZeroWAIT DFS so that the 5GHz network is operational without having to wait for a certain time.

This model has the WPA2 and also WPA3 encryption to properly protect the wireless network. An important aspect that we can read in the technical specifications is that this router will not be compatible until the end of the year when NETGEAR launches a firmware that “unlocks” the Wi-Fi 7 standard. Therefore, at first it will be a Wi-Fi router. -Fi 6E and we will not be able to squeeze it to the maximum.

Wired and USB Features

Regarding the wired characteristics of this model, we are facing a really complete WiFi 7 router, because we have the following ports:

  • One 10G Multigigabit port for the Internet WAN. Thanks to this high-speed port we will not have a bottleneck in the Internet network, we can use operators that provide these high speeds without problems.
  • One 10G Multigigabit port for the LAN. With this port we can connect a high-performance NAS server and get the most out of the Internet connection, however, it would be ideal to connect a 10G switch to this port to have more 10G Multigigabit ports available.
  • Four Gigabit Ethernet ports for the LAN. In these ports we can connect equipment for the LAN that does not have Multigigabit connectivity.

This kit also has a USB 3.0 port High performance, taking into account the powerful processor that it incorporates, we will surely achieve speeds of more than 200MB/s both in reading and writing. Basically we will have almost the same performance as a low-end NAS server, and it is very possible that the bottleneck is in the hard drive itself, so we recommend connecting an SSD drive.

firmware

The firmware of this router will be in its “final” version at the end of this year 2023, where we can unlock all the features of the Wi-Fi 7 standard. While it arrives, this router will be as if it were only Wi-Fi 6E so it will not we will be able to get the most out of the WiFi wireless network. He NETGEAR firmware for this router is the same as always, nothing has changed in this aspect, we have a QoS quite advanced, we also have NETGEAR Armor which is the technology that allows us to protect the computers connected to the local network, and we also have an OpenVPN server among many other advanced functions to configure the equipment in detail.

This router will be available for around €700 from May of this year, a very high price, but it is what is expected in Wi-Fi 7 routers.
