Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic will close the game soon

Just two years after its release, Niantic announced that what should have been the Pokémon Go set in the Wizarding World, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, will close its doors soon.

The title will officially go offline on January 31, 2022, with Niantic removing the mobile game from the App and the Google Play Store on December 6th. In the meantime, however, the company will decrease the cooldown times to make the game less slow, allowing all users who are still playing it to defeat the latest bosses and complete the latest events.

The money you have spent and invested in the stock, on the other hand, will remain where it is:

“Players will not be able to receive a refund on past purchases, unless otherwise required by law”, the developers of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite in the announcement published a few hours ago. “We will have a number of fun gameplay tweaks over the remaining months, so you will have every opportunity to enjoy your leftover gold.”

Niantic will close the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite servers soon, as it already looks to the future

Released in June 2019, Wizards Unite was largely based on the existing Pokémon Go ARG, a highly successful title from Niantic. Instead of playing as Pokémon trainers, the idea was to have us become the wizards and witches of one of the four houses of Hogwarts, allowing us to fight monsters and gather resources in the game while walking around the real world.

VentureBeat reports that, based on data from mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, while Pokémon Go earned over $ 1 billion this year alone, Wizards Unite earned only $ 40 million; thus decreeing the end of the title which, at launch, seemed to have achieved some success.

“With nine games and apps in our development pipeline, some of which will soft launch in 2022, there are many more amazing worlds we want to bring to life in new and unique ways.”, Niantic wrote in a blog post.
