Meet the AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX WiFi repeater with Wi-Fi 6 and Mesh

Main features

This new FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX AVM WiFi repeater is one of the best and smallest repeaters you can buy for your AVM mesh WiFi network, considering its specifications and price, it is a really interesting piece of equipment worth considering.

Wireless

The main wireless features of this new WiFi repeater from AVM are that it incorporates Simultaneous dual-band with Wi-Fi 6 and it’s class AX3000. In the 2.4GHz band we can achieve a speed of up to 574Mbpsthanks to its two internal antennas in MU-MIMO 2T2R configuration, 40MHz channel width and Wi-Fi 6 standard. In the 5GHz band we can achieve a speed of up to 2,401Mbpsthanks to its two internal antennas in MU-MIMO 2T2R configuration, to the 160MHz channel width that the repeater supports, and also to the new Wi-Fi 6 standard. The most remarkable thing about this WiFi repeater is that it incorporates support for 160MHz channel widththis will allow us to have a great real speed, both in the wireless network and also in the wired network, because we will be able to take advantage of all the bandwidth of the wireless networks.

This Wi-Fi repeater allows you to repeat the wireless signal of any wireless router, it only needs to support 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz, no matter what brand it is, since it is a universal Wi-Fi repeater. However, if you have a FRITZ!Box router, it is almost mandatory that you use a FRITZ!Repeater because it will integrate perfectly into the Mesh network of the AVM router and will give you really interesting additional features.

This equipment incorporates the technology FRITZ!Meshso it will integrate perfectly into the mesh Wi-Fi network from the German manufacturer AVM to provide the best possible user experience, in this way, we will have Wi-Fi roaming between nodes to go from one to another in a completely transparent way and without the end user noticing it, in this way, we will have the best user experience when being in a VoIP call or video call. Of course we will also have band-steering in WiFi frequency bands, in this way, the repeater will place us in the best frequency band depending on the distance from the WiFi access point, the number of connected clients and other internal factors.

Operating modes and security

Regarding the mode of operation, this AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX repeater allows us to configure the trunk connection against router flexibly, depending on the distance, synchronization speed, clients connected to the repeater and the frequency bands used, we can connect dynamically at 2.4GHz or 5GHz, this is managed directly by the WiFi repeater, without us having to do anything at all. We can also set the cross band mode, this means that it will establish communication in both bands simultaneously (2.4GHz and 5GHz) with the router, if the client connects in 2.4GHz the traffic to the router will go through the 5GHz network and if the client connects via 5GHz , then the traffic will go over the 2.4GHz network, allowing for the best possible performance. Lastly, we can also set a frequency band specifically so that this is always used for the interconnection between the repeater and the main router.

Regarding the safety of this repeater, it incorporates support for WPA2/WPA3, so we will have maximum security allowing older clients to connect with WPA2 without problems. In essence, when we configure a Wi-Fi network with WPA2/WPA3, it is as if we were really using WPA2, because the management frames are not protected and can cause any type of attack on the wireless network.

This WiFi repeater has a “Connect” button that is basically the usual WPS, this Connect button will allow us to synchronize the repeater with the FRITZ!Box router and have a mesh WiFi network with all the available options.

wired

The AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX has one Gigabit Ethernet port for the LAN. This port, if we have configured the repeater in «Wi-Fi Bridge» or universal WiFi repeater mode, we can use it to connect a device via cable such as a Smart TV or any other device, in addition, if we put a switch we will have more Ethernet ports available to connect more devices simultaneously. If we have configured the AVM FRITZ!Repeater 1200 AX as «LAN bridge«, then we have to connect via cable the WiFi repeater to the router or to the wired network to provide the best possible WiFi connectivity.

Undoubtedly, the possibility of connecting this repeater via cable to the main router is a very favorable point, because it will allow us to have a stable backbone network running at 1Gbps speed, ideal to be able to make the most of the simultaneous dual band with Wi-Fi.
