Meet the QNAP QMiroPlus-201W router and NAS in our video

QNAP QMiroPlus-201W Key Features

This new router with NAS server functions has a hardware dedicated specifically to the router part with the built-in WiFi access point, and other hardware oriented to the NAS server part. In fact, QNAP allows us to have the router turned on and working perfectly, but the NAS server part can be turned off, in addition, the NAS server part could be turned on remotely by accessing the QuRoter firmware.

Router Features

The main characteristics of the router part is that we have Simultaneous triple band with AC2200 WiFi. In the 2.4GHz band we can achieve a speed of up to 400Mbps, thanks to its two internal antennas in MIMO 2T2R configuration and the 256QAM quadrature amplitude modulation, in each of the two 5GHz bands we can achieve a speed of up to 867Mbps , thanks to its two internal antennas in MU-MIMO 2T2R configuration and 80MHz channel width. A very remarkable aspect of this router is that we have Mesh WiFi, if we use other QMiro routers we will be able to create a large mesh WiFi network to expand the wireless coverage in our home, in addition, we will have WiFi roaming and band-steering in a completely transparent way .

This equipment has One Gigabit Ethernet port for the Internet WANAlthough we must bear in mind that the firmware does not currently have VLANs on the WAN, QNAP is working on incorporating this functionality as soon as possible. We also have a total of three Gigabit Ethernet ports for the LAN, these ports will allow us to connect the different equipment via cable.

At the hardware level, the router uses a Qualcomm IPQ4019 processor which has a Quad-Core at 720MHz, we also have 512MB RAM and an internal memory of 4GB capacity. Therefore, we are talking about a medium-high-end hardware, so the performance via WiFi and wiring is guaranteed, in addition, the QuRouter operating system is highly optimized and will allow us to perform any action in a very agile way.

NAS server features

The dedicated hardware for the NAS server part is quite cutting edge if we consider that it is a hybrid between router and NAS, it has a powerful Intel J4125 processor which is a Quad-Core at 2.0GHz speed, in addition, it incorporates a total of 4GB of RAM expandable up to 8GB capacity, it also has 4GB of Flash memory to store the QTS 5.0 operating system.

This NAS server has two bays to accommodate 2.5 ”hard drives or SSD drives, it also has a total of two USB 3.0 ports high performance, and one 2.5G Multigigabit port, which will allow us to transfer data at a high speed in the local network, thanks to this port we can have up to 290MB / s of read and write speed, ideal to have the maximum possible performance.

QMiroPlus-201W Software

In the router part we have the operating system QuRouter, a firmware specifically designed for the router part, where we can configure everything related to the Internet WAN, the LAN and the DHCP server, static routes, port forwarding, the possibility of configuring QuWAN to interconnect different locations easily and quickly, we can also configure everything related to the WiFi wireless network and the WiFi Mesh system, and we can even configure different VPN servers among which is Qbelt, OpenVPN and L2TP. Other important features are the incorporation of Parental control, possibility of updating the firmware automatically or manually, and we can even turn the NAS server part on and off whenever we want.

Regarding the NAS server part, we have QTS 5.0 with all that this implies in speed, security in communications and important news regarding services. In this new version of the operating system we have very important new features, such as a new faster and more efficient kernel, greater security thanks to support for TLS 1.3 and even an app called QuFTP which has many more configuration options than the FTP server that we had integrated so far.

A very important novelty is the incorporation of QVPN3, this new version has the popular WireGuard VPN server that will allow us a higher bandwidth and lower latency when we connect. This new QVPN3 service has compatibility with Qbelt, OpenVPN and even with L2TP / IPsec as usual, but they have incorporated WireGuard because it is one of the fastest VPNs that we can install today.

Installation and commissioning on video

In RedesZone we have made a complete video where we show you all the contents of the box of this router and NAS QNAP QMiroPlus-201W, we also explain each and every one of the ports that this equipment incorporates and what each of them are for. In case you want to know what the bays are like to house the hard drives or SSD units, in the following video we also briefly explain how to mount the SSDs in the bays and how they are installed.

This equipment has two operating systems, one for the router part and the other for the NAS server part, in our video we are going to show you the main configuration options that we have available in the QuRouter firmware, and you will also be able to see all of them the configuration options of QTS 5.0, the new version of the operating system that is oriented to the part of the NAS server.

Finally, we carried out some performance tests where it can be seen that we will achieve speeds of up to 290MB / s in reading and up to 230MB / s in writing, a very high performance, logically using the 2.5G Multigigabit port in order to achieve the best performance possible. Although it does not appear in the video, we have verified that we can achieve a speed of up to 1,500Mbps in the VPN network using WireGuard, an excellent performance and that will allow us to connect from anywhere to our local network quickly.

As you can see, this new QNAP QMiroPlus-201W model is a really interesting piece of equipment because it is off-road, it has the functions of a router with Mesh WiFi, and all the possibilities of a QNAP NAS server with the integrated QTS 5.0 operating system.
