However, other less well-known marketing companies have also appeared, where their salespeople are trying to deceive their potential clients, with the aim of stealing customers from the rest of the marketing companies due to an alleged discount that they are going to give us. Although the price of electricity has moderated compared to previous years, the truth is that the price per kWh is still really high if we compare it with the best times of the rates regulated by the Government, or also known as PVPC. Because the market is constantly changing, there are marketing companies that try to deceive their future clients by impersonating the current company.
This is how they will try to deceive you
The scam begins when a salesperson posing as the marketing company you currently have, in our case it is Repsol. This supposed Repsol salesperson calls us because he wants to offer us a much cheaper electricity rate than the one we currently have, and to do so, we simply have to make a voice recording where we confirm all our data, and the corresponding discount will automatically be applied to us. invoice with a new improved kWh price compared to what we had previously.
The scam is that it is not really a commercial for our current company, in our case Repsol, but rather He is a commercial for another company and he is tricking us into switching to that other company.. In the voice recording we can hear perfectly that the marketing company is no longer called Repsol, the scammer will tell you that it is normal because the legal name changes, but that everything will remain the same as before and you will not have any changes, that you will continue with your current company electrical. Due to current legislation, it is mandatory to detail in the voice contract all the details of the marketing company, the agreed kWh price and other aspects such as the bank account, etc. This contract is what will save us, as long as we realize that it is a scam and what they are trying to do is get us to switch to their electricity marketing company.
What to do to check if it is my company or not
The salesperson who calls us generally has our personal information such as name and surname, contact telephone number (the one they called you), and it is also possible that they have your complete address of the electricity supply to which they refer. However, if this salesperson is not really from your electric company, they will not know these data, which are private, and only accessible to your current company:
- Contract number: is the identifier of your home’s electricity contract. If they tell you a contract number and it doesn’t correspond to the one you have, they probably don’t know it and have made it up.
- Current price of your company: A salesperson from another company does not have access to your file to see what price you are paying per kWh, therefore, they will probably tell you that you are paying between this and that (a price range), without specifying exactly how much.
- The amount of the last invoice: You will also not have access to how much money you have paid on your last invoice, since only the marketer will know this.
He may have the rest of your personal data due to the large number of data leaks that have occurred over the last few months and years, so you should pay close attention to what he knows or doesn’t know about you. Of course, when you are in a company and they want to lower your price, you do not have to sign a new contract over the phone, but they will apply it directly to you, and they will simply confirm this to you by email, that is, you do not have to do a new voice recording.
