What do the new badges that we can find on Twitter mean?

Over the last few months and after the acquisition by Elon Musk, many changes have been seen in the Twitter social network. A good part of them are not having the acceptance that their new owner originally intended. The truth is that a good part of the novelties that Musk is adding to the blue bird’s social network, they are generating more rejection than acceptance by the majority of their regulars. That is precisely why a good number of users of the social network are abandoning it or migrating to other similar alternatives. In these same lines we want to focus on the implementation of a verification system that we will talk about below.

From the point of view of its highest managers, this is a new way of operating whose main objective is to help identify which social group the account owner belongs to. At the same time, what is intended with this implementation is to largely avoid the usual account impersonations that have been seen to date in recent years where only the profile photo was taken into account.

All this arises from Twitter Blue, the subscription payment model of the social platform. From this method of subscription many users began to register accounts with the name of companies and media, when obviously they were not.

What the Twitter badges tell us

Although they are not very well seen at the moment, regular users of the social network should know the meaning of the badges. This will allow them to interact in one way or another with the different Twitter accounts that we follow or are going to follow.

  • Blue badge: this is the one we see next to the accounts that have subscribed to the previously mentioned modality, Twitter Blue. Here it does not matter the person or company that has subscribed. Its price in our country is 11 euros per month, a cost that not everyone is willing to pay. The advantage of this is that the subscribed account is who it claims to be, the social platform already takes care of it.
  • Golden badge: on the other hand, we find this other badge that can appear together with a multitude of accounts. It is important to know that it is assigned to all those accounts corresponding to companies, non-profit organizations and the media. Of course, the media must be subscribed to Twitter Blue, so some refuse to pay the monthly fee and hence their complaints.

  • Gray badge: we will find this next to the Twitter accounts corresponding to officials, government employees or some government organization. For example, the presidents or ministers of each country are included here.

  • Affiliation Badge: This is a more special badge that indicates that account is connected to an organization on the Twitter social network itself.
