ARC and Core 12 in laptops, this has been the CES of Intel

Intel Core 12 for Laptops at CES 2022

It is no secret that the Alder Lake architecture was going to reach laptops and as it has happened with its rival AMD we have had the premiere of Intel in the so-called ultrathin or ultralight gaming laptops based on processors with a TDP of 28 W where in Intel’s case have been called Intel Core 12-P. On the other hand, the Intel Core 11-H of 35 and 45 W of TDP are going to receive their corresponding replacement in the twelfth generation.

Since Intel they have not given the complete specifications, but its form factor is the same as that of the previous Tiger Lake-H and they share the integrated GPU, but separated in another chip of the previous generation. However, this does not mean that Intel has not made improvements to its iGPUs, however, we will go into this later.

Intel EVO

Intel EVO

Under this brand we find a certification that indicates that a laptop meets a series of Intel requirements. Because this year we are going to see the new GPUs for gaming they have decided to integrate them within the Intel Evo specification. Are we facing the declaration of intent by Intel to promote only hardware for laptops where all components will be of the same brand? Fortunately, it is the assemblers and manufacturers who have the last word when it comes to joining the Intel Evo program.

From what is deduced from the slide, computers with an Intel Core 12-P CPU would be exempt as an Intel Core 12-H is required as a processor. The certification forces the use of Intel’s wireless radios and as we have said before a dedicated GPU. So the vast majority of components will be from the brand founded by Gordon Moore.

And what about the new desktop models?

Intel Core i9-12900KS

Intel has expanded the portfolio of its Core 12 available for desktop, but they have highlighted a single processor among the new models: the i9-12900KS, which has the capacity to reach 5.5 GHz in Turbo with one or two cores. It would therefore be the new top of the range among Alder Lake desktop.

As for the next generation processors, Raptor Lake, they have confirmed that they are already finished and that they would be running Windows within the company’s laboratories. So the final design would already be finished, however, we have not been given a specific release date, only later this year.

Intel ARC at CES 2022

However, there is something that has disappointed us and it is the non-presentation of the Intel ARC Alchemist and we hope to see Intel showing the first generation of gaming graphics cards under the brand. However, they did hit the market and Intel has announced that they have managed to get several brands to integrate their ARC Alchemist into up to 50 laptop designs. There has been no mention of desktop versions and no custom graphics cards either, only that we will start to see the first laptops with an Intel Gaming GPU in the first quarter of 2022.

Intel Deep Link

The first technology that Intel has shown at CES 2022 related to ARC GPUs is Deep Link, the equivalent of AMD’s SmartShift, but with Intel branding that allows synchronization between the iGPU and the ARC GPU. However, Intel has plans to go further, since Deep Link allows to use the power of the graphics integrated in the processor for non-graphics tasks, however, that benefit from running on a GPU such as physics calculations. , animation, post-processing effects, etc.

Intel HyperEnccde CES 2022

Where they have demonstrated this ability is in video transcoding, in a demonstration in which both GPUs share the frames to encode in a format and / or resolution. It is certainly an interesting technology for video streaming. They have called this function Hyper Encode and it allows you to speed up times by up to 40%.

Multidevice Experience

At the moment it is not available in the short term in Intel CPUs, but it is a display controller technology that will allow us to use any device with a display within a local wireless network or via USB C with DisplayPort on a display secondary. So you can automatically broadcast the content of your games to the Smart TV in the living room or turn your tablet into a second screen for the PC.

It is not something that cannot be done today, however, from Intel they promise that what they want is to automate this task and we will have it available at the end of this year.
