Eclipse TD307MK3 – A compact spaceship speaker for modern living rooms

Seven years it has taken Eclipse to renew its iconic loudspeaker, the Eclipse TD307MK2. And it has done so with the launch of the Eclipse TD307MK3, a compact loudspeaker that follows a design line very similar to that of its predecessor and that incorporates some of the technologies of the superior range. For the first time in this range we find a full range fiberglass drive unit as well as a new magnet system.

But let’s start with the design. The new Eclipse TD307MK3 sports a modern ovoid-shaped design that is very reminiscent of some spaceships from certain movies. The speakers also have a base that allows the speaker to be placed either on a piece of furniture or on the wall. In addition, it offers a lot of flexibility, thanks to the fact that provides -25 to 30 degree movement when placed horizontally and 0 to 90 degree movement when used on a wall or ceiling.

The support of the Eclipse TD307MK3 is much more than a simple foot, since it includes five pillars that, mounted internally, eliminate vibrations. It also includes a mass anchor inside, which provides solid support for high speed movements of the cone.

The unique ovoid housing now has a larger volume to provide an improved environment for the new transducer, which now moves a larger volume of air. Other improvements include a new and improved terminal layoutwhich supports both bare and banana speaker cables, plus a new cable routing design, with the ability to accommodate larger cables and hide them from view (with desktop users in mind).

Eclipse TD307MK3: important improvements at the acoustic level to improve its performance

At the heart of the new Eclipse TD307MK3 is an update to the High performance 6.5cm full range fiberglass drive unit (This is the first time fiberglass has been used in the TD307 series.) The new driver is backed by 12 key enhancements, many of which help it realize its full potential.

For example, an implemented new larger “repulsive” neodymium main magnet and sub-magnet system to provide more power to the new transducer. The magnet system not only increases efficiency, but also complements the material perfectly, helping to deliver a wider frequency response, especially in the low-end region. In this way the Eclipse TD307MK3 offers a frequency range of 80 Hz to 25 kHz, with a sensitivity of 80 dB.

The new fiberglass cone also benefits from a higher speed, lower vibration, higher dynamics and lower noise level. Vibration has been reduced by 50% over its predecessor and Eclipse engineers have achieved an 80% increase in linearity.

The Eclipse TD307MK3 is a compact loudspeaker, with measures 135 × 212 × 184 mm and weighs approximately 2 kg. In other words, it is a very easy speaker to place. In addition, thanks to its ingenious integrated mounting bracket with angle adjustment it can be mounted on the wall or on the ceiling, thus being able to be used in multiple A/V functions, including custom installations.

The new Eclipse TD307MK3 is now available in black or white, priced at £300 per speaker or £600 a couple.
