Meet the D-Link DSR-1000AC professional router with firewall and VPN

Main features of this professional router

This professional router is a model specifically aimed at small and medium-sized companies, where we want to have a very advanced wired network, but also have WiFi connectivity to connect WiFi equipment without having to buy access points. This professional router is currently the top of the range of the manufacturer in professional routers, it is the most powerful and the one that provides us with the most possibilities.

The D-Link DSR-1000AC has a total of 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports for Internet WAN, we can configure load balancing between these WANs and we can also configure it as connection failover. The firmware allows us to configure VLANs on the Internet WAN, with the aim of being able to connect to the FTTH networks of the main operators in Spain, which make use of VLANs in the WAN to obtain the public IP address. The firmware of this router allows us to configure a third WAN, through a 3G / 4G modem that we can connect to one of the two USB 2.0 ports that this router incorporates. This router supports both static / dynamic IP, PPPoE as well as L2TP / PPTP on the Internet WAN.

This team also has 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports for LAN, the firmware allows configure VLANs on the LAN, therefore, we can configure the ports as access or as trunk, to provide all the VLANs to the manageable switches that we configure. Thanks to the complete firmware, we will be able to create different access control rules to allow or deny the traffic between the different VLANs that we create, in addition, we will be able to enable or not the inter-VLAN routing. Other characteristics related to the LAN, is that, together with each created VLAN, we can configure a different DHCP server associated with that VLAN.

Regarding the WiFi wireless network, we have Simultaneous dual band with AC1750 Wi-Fi. We can get a speed up to 450Mbps in the 2.4GHz band, thanks to its three antennas in MIMO 3T3R configuration, we can also get a speed up to 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz band, thanks to its three antennas in MIMO 3T3R configuration. The firmware will allow us to create multiple-SSIDs, both in 2.4GHz and 5GHz, in addition, we can assign each SSID with a specific VLAN ID, to have wired and wireless connectivity in the same subnet created with the router.

Finally, this router has two USB 2.0 ports, we can connect a 3G / 4G modem and use it as a third WAN, we can also use it to load firmwares and even to save router configurations, and later restore them. We must bear in mind that it is a professional router, so we will not have a torrent download manager, DLNA media server or other services typical of home routers.

Regarding the performance of this router, according to the data provided by D-Link, it has a throughput through the firewall of up to 950Mbps, a performance with VPN (using 3DES) of 250Mbps, allows up to 100K concurrent connections, 1000 new sessions per second and allows up to 600 policies on the firewall. Other important features of its firmware is that it supports static and dynamic routes (RIP and OSPF), possibility to configure NAT / PAT in detail, web content filtering based on URLs and keywords, and even an IPS integrated in the firmware based in signatures. Other services available on the router is the possibility of configuring several DHCP servers, DHCP clients, configuring DHCP Relay, managing multicast traffic such as IGMP Proxy and IGMP Snooping, full support for IPv6 networks and support for various VPN protocols.

This D-Link DSR-1000AC router supports various VPN protocols, we can create up to 155 VPN tunnels, 70 IPsec tunnels, 20 SSL / TLS tunnels, 25 PPTP / L2TP tunnels, 20 GRE tunnels and 20 OpenVPN tunnels as a maximum. Of course, we will have support for most encryption, including 128 and 256 bit AES, the most secure, and it also supports SHA256 among other hashing algorithms.

This D-Link DSR-1000AC router allows you to put it in a rack, in fact, it comes with the brackets to rack them without problems. It has dimensions of 28cm wide, 18cm deep and 4.4cm high. Finally, it has a maximum consumption of 23.1W, it needs external power with a 12V and 3A current transformer to power it correctly.
