QNAP launches the TVS-675, a powerful and affordable model with 2.5Gbps ports

Features of this affordable NAS

The QNAP TVS-675 is a really interesting piece of equipment because it allows us to install two different operating systems, on the one hand, we always have QTS based on the EXT4 file system, however, thanks to its technical specifications, we also have the possibility of installing the QuTS hero operating system with the ZFS file system. The first thing to do is decide which operating system suits you best, whether to have the “usual” operating system with QTS, or to go to QuTS hero with ZFS and all that this entails (greater data integrity, online compression, more RAM memory consumption, etc.).

CPU, RAM and Flash characteristics

This new NAS server has a powerful ZhaoXin KX-U6580 8-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz, incorporates a 64-bit x86 architecture and has both a floating point unit and a hardware encryption engine with AES-NI. This processor incorporates an integrated graphics processor that is the ZhaoXin C-960, therefore, we have hardware accelerated transcoding, in order to have the best possible performance when we are using programs such as Plex Media Server. It is the first time we have heard of this processor ZhaoXin KX-U6580, but it has a Passmark of 3000 points, although only a sample has been tested.

This server is sold with 8GB DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM, in a single 8GB module. It allows the expansion of the RAM memory up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM (2 modules of 32GB each). Thanks to this RAM memory capacity we will be able to use virtual machines with Virtualization Station, use containers like docker and much more, although always taking into account the power of the main processor.

Finally, this NAS server has 5GB of flash storage for the protection of the operating system with double boot, ideal in case we have any problem in the update of the operating system.

Storage

This NAS server is very complete at the storage level. We have a total of 6 bays to accommodate 3.5 or 2.5 inch hard drives, it is also compatible with 2.5 SSD drives, to use it as storage or as an SSD cache. All its hard drive bays are hot swappable, and compatible with all large capacity hard drives and SSDs on the market.

This server has two M.2 NVMe storage slots, specifically we have two M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x1 SSD slots. Thanks to this storage we can use it as an SSD cache, as a storage pool with all SSD units or as a Qtier for QNAP tiered storage.

Connectivity

The connectivity of this NAS server is very complete, the first thing we have to say is that it incorporates a network card with two 2.5G Multigigabit 2.5Gbps portsTherefore, we can achieve a bandwidth of 5Gbps if we use Link Aggregation. This model allows the installation of 5G cards and even 10G cards as an option, through a PCIe adapter that we can install in this server. Of course, we have support for Jumbo Frames at 9K.

This QNAP TVS-675 server has a total of 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps ports, that is to say, the typical USB 3.0 of always. We also have two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports at a speed of 10Gbps. Regarding the PCIe 3.0 ports that this high-performance server incorporates, we have two PCIe 3.0 x4 ports. Thanks to these ports we can install QNAP expansion cards for wired network, WiFi network, USB ports and even to install more M.2 NVMe drives.

Other features

This model has a GPU integrated into the processor, therefore, we will have an HDMI 2.0 port for video output, this HDMI port supports 4K resolution (up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz), so we can connect it directly to the TV without any problem. The power supply of this NAS is 250W, it has a standby consumption of 42W and with a typical operation of 61W.

Finally, this model measures 188.2mm high, 263.9 wide and 280.08mm deep, with a weight of 6.2kg, in the back we will have three 80mm fans to cool the internal components and hard drives .
