Should I install electric underfloor heating? Know all its advantages

An alternative to conventional heating is electric underfloor heating. An option that has a very low consumption and keeps our home at a pleasant temperature. That is why it is not surprising that more and more homes in Spain choose to install this type of heating. If you still do not know it, we will tell you about the advantages of underfloor heating, and how you will save if you install this type of flooring at home.

long term savings

When assessing the pros and cons of installing electric underfloor heating, we have to take into account that the installation will be higher than another heating system. However, in the long run it can mean savings of up to 20% if we compare it with the rest of the heaters on the market. Due to its type of operation, it does not need to reach high temperatures to heat the house. It is capable of providing us with the heat we need and maintaining it for longer. This translates into lower consumption and, therefore, a lower electricity bill.

One of the main advantages of electric underfloor heating is that it distributes heat evenly, from bottom to top. It reaches a temperature that is around 25 and 29ºC. In addition, by having this mechanism of heating mats that emit heat, it does not produce drafts. This prevents dust from moving around and reduces the feeling of dryness.

Electric underfloor heating, the healthiest heating

Comfort is what we are looking for when we turn on the heating, and it seems precisely that this is the only purpose of this type of heating. By producing heat from bottom to top, the highest temperature remains in the lower areas, reaching a lower temperature in the head area. Something to keep in mind, since direct heat on the head is not good.

Although we are talking about an installation in which we have to raise the floor and certain specific conditions have to be met, in the end we will gain in comfort. By not taking up space (everything is under the ground) we have more space in the house to enjoy. This also saves us time cleaning the appliances and gives us a more aesthetic option.

High initial investment

If it’s all positive, why don’t all houses have it? In addition to taking into account the installation work, not all homes are prepared for this type of heating. It is necessary that our house has thermal inertia. In other words, our soil must have the capacity to conserve thermal energy in order to progressively release it. This does not happen, for example, with parquet floors. Therefore, its installation entails having a marble or porcelain tile floor.

These conditions and its high investment when it comes to installing all the electrical wiring (it can cost about €100 per square meter) are the factors that would throw us back. However, experts agree that it would be an investment that we would recover in the short term given the energy efficiency of this heating system.
