This winter is going to be one of the most complicated in energy matters, the price of electricity, natural gas and diesel is literally through the roof. In this complicated scenario, it is very important to save as much as possible, and there are devices for the home that will precisely allow us to save, although logically we must first make an investment in buying the equipment to later see the results. Today at RedesZone we are going to show you which devices can help you save money on your gas heating.
Save money with a WiFi smart thermostat
A wifi smart thermostat It is a normal thermostat, but it connects via WiFi to our router so that we can manage it from our smartphone. This type of thermostats allow us make very advanced settings in the form of schedules and also temperatures. All this is configured through an application for Android or iOS smartphones, so we will be able to configure everything in a very advanced way, and most importantly: from anywhere, because it is connected to the Internet.
Installation is as easy as replace current thermostat, and set the WiFi smart thermostat to turn the boiler on and off when needed. In some cases, we can wire a “bridge” device between the thermostat and WiFi connectivity, so that the thermostat can be placed wherever we want and not in a fixed place, that is, we would have a wireless thermostat.
Along with thermostats, we can buy thermostatic valves. These devices allow us to turn off and turn on the radiators individually, this is where we are going to have very important savings, because it will allow us to turn off the radiators that we want at night, while the radiator in the main room is on and working. In this way, we will be saving a lot of gas because it does not have to heat all the radiators, but only one.
In our case, we have been using NETATMO thermostats for more than 3 years, and its operation has been simply perfect during all this time. We have a thermostat for individual gas boilers, which is what we normally have in our homes. The installation allows two possibilities:
- Connect the “bridge” by wiring the boiler, and move the battery-powered thermostat throughout the house.
- Connect the thermostat replacing the previous one, in this case the thermostat will be fixed in the living room or in the location where it is.
If you can afford it in the short term, a very interesting investment would be to buy thermostatic valves from NETATMO, which will allow us to have maximum comfort with the best possible gas savings, since it will only turn on the radiators that we have programmed.
Finally, NETATMO also has some devices for the collective heating, in this way, we can control the temperature per room. We must take into account that this year the collective heatings have a meter, so you should check the compatibility with the meter that they have put on you
An alternative to NETATMO is tado°, another very large manufacturer that will allow us to create advanced programs to save as much gas as possible in our home. Tadoº has the same characteristics as NETATMO, we could say that they are very similar products, since there are hardly any differences between the two. Logically, the applications and configuration possibilities are somewhat different. The price of the tado° is somewhat higher than NETATMO, it is something that you should take into account.
In the case of tadoº, we also have smart thermostatic valves, thanks to this, we will be able to open or close the thermostatic valve of our radiator and save as much money as possible.
Depending on the number of radiators that we have in our home, the investment in the thermostat and thermostatic valves can amount to more than €500, logically the savings that you will obtain in the long term will be clearly higher. In our personal case, this year 2022 we will fully amortize the installation of the thermostat plus 14 thermostatic valves for all the radiators.
