When the likes of the Premier League in England and the top European domestic leagues such as the Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga, take their respective summer breaks, there is a massive void to fill for those who like to have a bet on football.
The gap from the end of May until the start of September, the traditional time the top European league starts up again, can feel like an eternity. So what can we do to fill the void? Well, there are a good few options out there available.
Ever thought of trying out online games? Online games have everything from slots, to mini casinos that you can use. Some of the slot games are even football based. For example there is the Top Trumps slot game, and there are other football based online games such as Live Football Studio, which is a card game similar to Baccarat, Live Football Roulette and Live Football French Roulette, all available at the online casino at Paddy Power Games. And you don’t have to stop there with the games, as there is all the usual online casino games such as Blackjack and the more non-football based traditional version of Baccarat.
If online games aren’t enough to keep you interested, then you might want to look at different leagues. A selection of the best ones are below.
Brazilian Serie A
The Brazilian league traditionally runs from April to December. It is a hotbed of up-and-coming talent that the big teams in Europe are constantly sourcing for the next Neymar or Rodrygo, and also the home to legendary clubs such as Santos, Vasco da Gama, Sao Paulo, and Corinthians.
USA Major League Soccer
The MLS only started in 1996, but it has already established itself as a big player in the global market. Although it’s not regarded as a league for emerging talent, it is well able to attract big-name stars coming towards the end of their careers.
Over the years it has attracted world-famous performers like David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimović. And just recently, Los Angeles FC announced that Gareth Bale would be the latest huge name to grace the American league.
Argentinian Primera Division
Traditionally this league aligned itself more with Europe, but in recent years due to numerous other reasons, it has been played across the back end of the European summer and into either the new year or pre-Christmas. This season the league started in June and will finish in October.
The Icelandic leagues are lesser-known little gems. The league traditionally runs from April to September, and matches kick off at all times of night due to the endless hours of daylight at this time of the year.
If you like goals, you will like football in Iceland. Backing goals in the over/under markets can be profitable if you find the right matches.
League of Ireland Premier Division
The Irish Premier Division (as it’s also known) runs from February to October and consists of teams from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
In recent years it has grown in strength with Dundalk making it to the group stages of the Europa League in 2016/17 and again in the 2020/21 season. Dundalk also provided the national team with a manager in Stephen Kenny.
