In this article we are going to talk about something very specific: how to save light when toasting bread. Yes, it may seem basic and common sense, but the truth is that there are several options and doubts may arise.
We are not going to specifically go into which is the best way to make bread, but simply to analyze the different alternatives and their energy cost. There are several electrical appliances that you can have at home and, better or worse, they serve to toast the bread and make it ready for breakfast every morning.
How to toast the cheapest bread
We are going to show four different options for toast the bread. With all of them, in one way or another, you will be able to do it. As you will see, there are differences in terms of energy cost. Perhaps for a single time it is not something very visible, but it is when you are going to toast bread every day of the month if it is your usual breakfast.

The first option, the most common, is to use a toaster. Depending on the model, you will be able to put 2, 4 or 6 pieces of toast at the same time. Its operation is very simple, but regarding energy consumption there may be differences. Depending on the power it has, which is usually from 500 to 1200W, it will consume more or less.
The normal thing is that it is about 800W, so it would spend about 0.8 kWh. It’s going to take a couple of minutes. Therefore, we are talking about that every time you use it, you will spend about 0.026 kWh. If we say that the kWh costs €0.15, you would spend €0.004. In other words, you would be paying per month, starting from those 2 minutes and 30 days, around €0.12.

Another option is to use an air fryer. This appliance has become very popular lately and the problem is that not always save energy, something that we can think so. To toast the bread here, you will have to put the fryer at about 200 degrees and in 2 or 3 minutes you will have it ready, although it will depend on the model.
But how much does it cost to toast bread in an air fryer? Again, it’s going to depend on power. There are smaller ones, with 700-800W. In this case, the consumption will be very similar to that of a conventional toaster, as long as the power is similar. On the other hand, there are models that can have 2000W and there you would consume more.
Oven
This case is different. This time, you’re going to have to Preheat the oven at 175-200 degrees. The time will be longer, since it can take 4-6 minutes or even more, depending on the oven. This will inevitably mean that consumption is higher than the two previous options that we have seen.
How much does an oven consume? It will depend on the model, but there are from 800W. Therefore, if you have a small one, it could have the same power as an air fryer or a toaster. However, since it will take longer to toast the bread, in this case the consumption will be higher. It is undoubtedly less profitable than the other two options.

In this case, you will first have to heat the pan and then put the bread in for about 3 minutes to toast. Consumption, therefore, will also be higher. A ceramic hob will consume between 1200 and 2500W, generally. You will spend more energy than using a small oven or a toaster.
