Processor and RAM

This new NAS server has a powerful Intel Celeron J4025 processoris a Dual-Core at a speed of 2GHz but that reaches a speed of up to 2.9GHz when higher performance is required. Thanks to this Turbo mode, we will be able to provide higher performance at certain times, such as when we are using it intensively when copying or moving files. This processor has two very important features for a home environment:

• AES-NI hardware encryption acceleration: A very important feature to have the best possible security and performance. Thanks to this function, we will be able to have encrypted volumes or encrypted folders, and achieve high speed reading and writing rates. We will also benefit from using secure file transfer protocols such as FTPES, which is based on FTP, and heavy use of SFTP, which is based on SSH, can also be used. Finally, if we use protocols like OpenVPN we will also have excellent performance.
• Hardware video transcoding: This processor has the Intel UHD Graphics 600 graphics card that is integrated into the processor, this is ideal for transcoding with Plex Media Server or other programs, and not having 100% processor utilization as with processors that do not have This function. It supports HDMI 2.0 output at 4K resolution at 30Hz.

Regarding the RAM memory of this NAS, we have a module of 4GB DDR4 SO-DIMM RAMBut it can expand up to 8GB with two 4GB DDR4 SO-DIMM modules each, in this way, we will be able to virtualize operating systems such as Linux that do not require too many CPU resources, host Docker containers to greatly expand the functionalities and much more. Finally, this equipment has a 4GB capacity FLASH memory to store the dual-boot operating system.

This equipment has 2 SATA3 driveswe will be able to introduce 3.5″ or 2.5″ hard drives, in addition, it is also compatible with 2.5″ SSD drives, so we will be able to install high-capacity SSD drives and enjoy superior performance. in excellent reading and writing, however, having only 2 bays it is recommended to use high-capacity hard drives, because network connectivity is only 1Gbps.

In this case we do not have M.2 drives to install NVMe or SATA3 SSD drives, but QNAP gives us the possibility to install them through a QM2 PCIe adapter.
