Home automation helps save on heating and air
To air-condition our home in winter or summer, we can use heating or air conditioning. These devices will consume a important part of our billeither gas or electricity. This means that we can take into account methods to try to reduce it and here IoT or home automation devices play an important role.
One of the clear examples is being able to configure when to turn on appliances. For example the air conditioning. We can program it to turn on when we are going to be home, at certain times or connect it directly from the phone even if we are not at home. And you don’t need to have a smart air conditioner, because thanks to smart plugs you can also control when it turns on or off.
You can achieve something similar thanks to thermometers that you can place in your home. You can connect them to a heating or air, as well as smart plugs and have them turn on or off when it reaches a temperature. The objective is to control that the house does not cool down or heat up excessively, for example, so as not to have to consume more resources.
Also, you can use sensors to detect if a window or door is opened. It is not a good idea for it to be open in winter if we have the heating on, for example. These sensors can alert us if we have left one open or if it opens for some reason, such as if it is windy and moves a window.
Yet another example is power domotize a blind. You can program it to open or close even if you are not at home. Think, for example, of a sunny day in winter and that you are interested in sunlight entering and being able to heat, at least somewhat, the house. This can make you save energy, since if you have been able to increase the temperature by even one degree in this way, it is important.
More and more options available
As you can see, there are different methods to apply home automation to air conditioning and to be able to save energy and, ultimately, lower the price of the bill. We have seen some examples such as being able to turn appliances on or off remotely, use smart temperature sensors, detect open windows or program the raising and lowering of a blind. But this is something go a long way and we will certainly see more options for using IoT devices in this regard.
The smart homes they will be increasingly equipped and it is expected that in a matter of three years more than 20% of all houses will be home automation. This is going to help us in many aspects of our day to day life and clearly it will also help us save on electricity and gas bills.
We will be able to use more sensors to optimize heating or air conditioning, as well as detect places where we are wasting energy (for example, an open window or a blind that could store more heat).
