Why your WiFi will be the same even if you contract faster fiber

Hiring a higher rate does not improve Wi-Fi

If you have Wi-Fi speed issues, almost certainly it is not due to the rate you have contracted. Today it is normal for us to use fiber optics and we can say that something standard is to have 300 symmetrical Mbps. Without that, the wireless network goes bad, it does not allow you to download files or watch streaming videos in good quality, it will not improve by contracting a rate of, for example, 600 Mbps.

Limits with the network card

The first reason, the most important reason, is that you have a limited Wi-Fi network card. That will prevent you from having more speed wirelessly. For example, your Wi-Fi card may be old and that prevents you from exceeding a certain speed. If it were limited to 200 Mbps, it doesn’t matter if you have contracted 300 or 600; you won’t be able to achieve more than that.

This is known as a bottleneck. Basically it means that the network card is not going to be able to offer all the speed that you have contracted. You will always get less to your computer and hence the performance is not equal to what you have actually contracted with the Internet operator.

poor coverage

Another cause is that you have poor Internet coverage. It is a clear reason why the speed arrives very limited. If you are far from the router and the signal that reaches you is weakspeed will be affected. So will the quality of the connection and continuous cuts may appear.

Even if you hire a higher Internet rate, with higher speed, the problem will still be there. You will continue to have connection failures and the speed will be limited. In this case, it is best to find a way to optimize coverage, such as installing a repeater, PLC device or Mesh system.

Specific problems with WiFi

router problems

Nor would you improve Internet speed by contracting a higher rate if the problem is in the router. Maybe your device is limited, has some hardware issue or misconfiguration. In all these cases, even if you contract the maximum fiber speed, you will not get the Wi-Fi to work correctly and you will always have limitations.

Once again, what you should do before hiring a higher rate is to know what the problem is and find a solution. It is possible that you can solve it in a simple way, such as changing the Wi-Fi band to which you connect, but it could be a hardware failure and you would have to change the router.

In short, as you can see, it is not always a good idea to hire a higher Internet rate. Your Wi-Fi may continue to be slow for a variety of reasons, and you may need to take a variety of other steps to optimize your connection.
