You are paying more for your gas bill; save with this small change

The TUR rate, the cheapest for this winter

When we hire a gas rate in Spain We have two options: go to the free market or use the regulated market. The former has many different rates, with prices that can vary wildly. The second option is the regulated rate, with a fixed price and which is currently the best option to pay less.

According to alerts from FACUA, the TUR rate It is currently the cheapest and by quite a difference. In fact, the free market has the kWh up to 139% more expensive. The TUR rate or Last Resort Rate is regulated by the Government and its price is the same for the different companies that have this rate.

If we speak in economic figures, for a consumption of 800 kWh per month with the TUR rate we would pay €69.19. On the other hand, with other companies with a rate in the free market such as Endesa, Naturgy or Iberdrola we would pay, respectively, €129.51, €128.54 and €146.91. As you can see, the difference is more than important.

The problem is that, as indicated, only 3 out of 10 users have switched to this rate this winter. This means that 70% of users could be overpaying on the gas bill. In many cases due to ignorance, in others because they believe that switching to another rate is complicated.

Changing the gas rate is very simple

If you want to change the contracted gas rate, really the process is very simple. You won’t even have to change companies in many cases. For example, Endesa or Iberdrola have a TUR rate that they offer to customers.

The only thing you should look at is if you have any kind of term contract. This sometimes happens if you take advantage of an offer, if you contract a gas and electricity pack, etc. Normally it is that you do not have any type of permanence and you can change. In that case you would have to see how much you would have to pay to cancel that contract. It is similar to what happens with telephony. However, it may cost you to pay that penalty. It’s a good idea to use smart thermostats, although it’s important not to have problems with Wi-Fi so that it works well.

If you do not have any type of permanent contract, it is as simple as making a call or contracting it online. From there you will be on the TUR rate and you will be able to benefit from a cheaper price for gas. The regulated option is ideal for the winter months, where we consume more due to heating.

Does this mean that it will always be better to contract the TUR rate? The answer is no, since there may be variations. But today we can say that in the vast majority of homes it is more worth hiring this rate.
