Synology has launched the central data storage unit DiskStation DS1823xs+. It can offer up to 144 TB of raw storage capacity Before expansion, it is a desktop format drive designed to meet the storage needs of businesses and professionals in terms of unstructured data. Both in offices and studios, and in general in companies that do not have a dedicated server rack, or a data center.
It achieves a maximum maximum write speed of 3,100 MB/s and sequential write speed of up to 2,600 MB/s, and offers flexible configuration options. Furthermore, its I/O performance can be improved by adding fast M.2 NVMe or SATA SSD storage volumes. Also configuring SSD as read and write cache for HDD volumes.
Integra 10GbE connectivity and optionally offers four 1/10/25GbE or Fiber Channel ports, supporting high-bandwidth applications. On the other hand, the DiskStation1823xs+ can be added with Synology DX5174 expansion units to achieve a maximum of 324TB of total raw storage.
It works with DiskStation Manager (DSM), Synology’s browser-based operating system, and with which remote management can be simplified with storage management, protection and maintenance solutions offered. These include remote drive replacement, health monitoring, and cloud-based system security for distributed server fleets.
It also has an out-of-band management port, which provides the opportunity to remotely reboot and reset the unit. It also lets you solve various problems remotely. Even if the system is turned off. On the other hand, it allows the configuration of pairs of servers in an active-passive configuration, with the aim of minimizing downtime.
It also has the Synology Drive platform, which allows you to access, share and synchronize files between Mac computers, PCs and mobile devices, which also facilitates remote and hybrid work, and the synchronization and sending of files between offices spread over several countries.
Another of its utilities, Hybrid Share, allows you to use the cloud to efficiently synchronize files and expand storage on demand. Meanwhile, Active Backup Suite allows you to consolidate backups of PCs, Macs, Linux computers, servers, Synology systems, VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.
Files and LUNs stored on the DS1823xs+, which is priced at €1,936, can be protected against ransomware and other threats by taking snapshots almost instantly with Snapshot Replication. This also allows for lower storage usage and recovery time objectives. HyperBackup, for its part, allows data to be safely backed up to various destinations. Like remote servers, cloud storage or external media.
As for the possible use cases of the Synology DS1823xs+, it can be used in video surveillance systems with Surveillance Station, a flexible VMS, with ONVIF certification, capable of working with more than 8,300 validated IP cameras. Up to 75 cameras can be added to this unit in particular, and if servers with the integrated centralized management system are connected, larger deployments can be made. For the assembly and management of this type of system, the unit has supervision, management and analysis tools for PCs and mobile devices.
