Android 13 will show 6 apps in the taskbar, but there’s a problem

Android 13 will allow up to 6 applications to be displayed in its taskbar, compared to 5 usually. This feature will only apply to the smartphone with a large enough screen, such as the Pixel 6 Pro. However, if ever the user decides to keep only 5, the taskbar will no longer be centered.

Android 13 will show up in beta on February 13. By then, several new features have already been announced or, failing that, spotted by some developers. Whether it’s practical features like the ability to switch profiles from the lock page, or the first official images unveiled by Google, we already have lots of stuff to chew on. One more is added to the list today.

The novelty of the day concerns the taskbar, which traditionally groups 5 applications at the bottom of the home screen. But with Android 13, the tradition will change. With the update, these will now be 6 applications that will be entitled to their shortcut. Note, however, that only sufficiently large screens, like that of the Pixel 6 Pro, can afford to display this change.

Android 13 absolutely wants you to have 6 apps in your taskbar

Good news for recent smartphone owners, who will be able to quickly access more applications. Provided you comply with Google’s conditions. Indeed, the Mountain View firm seems determined to impose its new taskbar on users. If by chance they decide that they prefer to keep 5 applications at the bottom of their screen, Android 13 will then suggest a new app to replace the deleted one, based on usage history.

Fortunately, it is possible to deactivate this option from the settings. But unlike older versions of Android which adjusts the taskbar by stretching it so that all apps are centered correctly, Android 13 doesn’t include this little extra. Also, if you prefer to stay at 5 applications or less, you will have to settle fora “holey” taskbar, leaving the dedicated spaces empty. Let’s hope that Google fixes this little problem during the beta phase.
