Tesla will carry out an intervention on the vehicles of fully autonomous driving testers. This represents a total of 54,000 Model 3, Model S, Model Y and Model X. The aim will be to deactivate the Rolling Stop function which allows the car to burn stops in certain circumstances. The deletion of the function has been requested by the American authorities in charge of road safety.
Fully autonomous driving (Full Self-Driving in VO) is an amazing Tesla option. Its price keeps rising. A further increase took place at the beginning of January 2022. And yet, the option is still not available to everyone. Fully Autonomous Driving is in beta. Holders of the option can try it (and report bugs, avoiding Tesla having to pay external service providers to do so, it’s pretty well done).

The manufacturer also takes the opportunity to push updates and unlock new features. Last October, Tesla introduced “ Rolling Stop ” Where ” slipped stop » in French version. What is that ? This is a function that allows fully autonomous driving to… simply run a stop sign. The car does not stop at the traffic sign and continues to drive at a speed that can rise to 9 km/h. Which is obviously contrary to the Highway Code (it costs 4 license points in France, as a reminder).
Tesla will remove Rolling Stop from Fully Autonomous Driving
This obviously did not please some authorities who asked that this function be deactivated in the testers and removed from Fully Autonomous Driving. This is particularly the case in the United States where the NHTSA (the American authority in charge of road safety) considers that “Rolling Stop” is an additional risk factor for accidents. After two interviews on January 10 and 19, 2022, Tesla, who ensures that no accidents have occurred due to this functiontherefore agreed to delete it.
Tesla is therefore recalling vehicles over 54,000 people currently testing fully autonomous driving. In the lot are Model 3, Model S, Model Y and Model X. The distribution was not detailed. All cars were marketed between 2016 and 2022. For all others, a update in OTA will be pushed before the end of February 2022.
