Can you imagine sleeping in a lighthouse or in a crane? The project of a man from Almeria and a Colombian

Antonio Cabrerizo is an entrepreneur from Almería who has created, together with his partner Amaury Cova, the platform Mahogany Hotels. It is a website where unique accommodations around the world come together. Divided into three categories, unusual, exclusive and cool, Caoba Hotels has more than 100 accommodations on all continents, providing travelers with unique stays in hotels, glamping sites, villas, and even lighthouses, castles, cranes, or boats, among other options.

This tourism sector project was born in the midst of a pandemic (2020), although it was not until January 2023 that the team was able to launch the platform. The idea arose when Antonio traveled to Amaury’s native Colombia and they stayed in a luxury hotel that was a convent. When wanting to recommend this accommodation, the man from Almería found that there was almost no information available on the Internet. And there he found the opportunity: to create a platform for all those unique accommodations that they did not have enough presence and details about the stay to make themselves known among intrepid travelers looking for different experiences.

Launching Caoba Hotels has been quite a challenge as it is an international project with a presence in 35 countries, but the great reception it is having rewards all the effort. We hope to continue improving the usability of the platform and we estimate that we will triple our growth in 2023 to reach 300 grouped accommodations”, comments Antonio Cabrerizo.

Beyond the accommodations, Caoba Hotels also proposes the option of create unique 100% personalized experiences for travelers. After completing a form, the user receives advice from a travel agent who will work to create a tailored itinerary including the traveler’s favorite stay according to its category (exclusive, unique or cool).

Ally of unusual accommodations

The objective of Caoba Hotels is to be able to help the owners of unusual accommodations in communication, visibility and marketing worldwide. For the benefit of both the accommodation and the traveler, the platform details its content with information and careful images that explain in depth what the stay will be like, compared to other accommodation reservation modalities focused on more concise or standardized product sheets. In addition, Caoba Hotels has a series of complementary strategies for those hotel owners who want to highlight your visibility including, among other options, drone footage, professional architectural photography, and virtual tours.

“Although we have several hotel groups that advertise their accommodations with Caoba Hotels, many of the accommodations we work with are independent and remote. This is a great challenge for us, since it is more difficult to find them, and that is why we have become a key ally for these accommodations that seek to increase their notoriety and obtain a greater number of reservations internationally with the help of Caoba Hotels. and the complementary strategies that we propose to them”, highlights Amaury Cova, co-founder of the platform.

Stay in a lighthouse, crane or cabin in the woods

Mahogany Hotels groups accommodations into three categories. First of all, the most unusual and rare rooms, that are difficult to find and that can be houses, apartments or rooms anywhere in the world. Next, exclusive accommodation where you can live unique experiences accompanied by a large number of services. And finally, the cool or “cool” accommodations that, being more affordable, offer equally unusual stays.

Among the more than 100 accommodations available so far, there are destinations such as Spain, Mexico, the United States, Jordan, Uruguay, Colombia, Indonesia or Singapore, among others. In them, travelers will be able to find such unusual rooms as an old hermitage in Andalusia, a crane in Amsterdam, a ship on the Danube in Budapest, a lighthouse on the coast of Namibia, a ranch in the snowy plains of Finland, a white cave in Greece or an eco-camp in Peru, among others.
