Discord has announced it is expanding its server subscription program, allowing more creators to start charging subscription fees for premium access and perks.
Weeks after launching a new, cheaper Nitro Basic subscription, messaging service Discord is finally offering a whole new way for users to earn money on the platform with the introduction of server subscriptions. After a year of testing, Discord is finally ready to allow more creators to offer subscriptions.
As a reminder, users can create communities on Discord, as on other social media platforms. While most servers don’t need much effort to run, other more popular servers require more maintenance and moderation. It was therefore necessary to find ways to remunerate their creators.

Discord sets up subscriptions to make you money
With this new monetization option, people who run Discord servers have the opportunity to get a solid revenue stream because the platform offers a 90/10 revenue split for each server subscription sold. In other words, admins get 90% of the profits, and Discord a small commission of just 10%.
Creators have a choice in pricing and content for each tier, giving them great flexibility and allowing them to find a good balance for all the offerings on offer. Pricing tiers can vary from $2.99 to $199.99 per month. Discord has included some examples from Bella Poarch below:
- Level 1 ($2.99 per month) includes an exclusive monthly video and unlocks access to certain features on its server, such as creating public threads.
- Level 2 ($4.99 per month) gives subscribers exclusive poll voting rights and early access to future merchandise deliveries, plus all the benefits of Level 1!
- Tier 3 ($9.99 per month) provides access to never-before-seen behind-the-scenes content and all the benefits of the previous two tiers.
For now, only servers in the United States are eligible, it will therefore be necessary to wait before finding these subscriptions in France. There are also some essential requirements for activating server subscriptions. These must be in good standing with Discord, with no recent violations of the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, and administrators must agree to Discord’s Monetization Terms and Server Subscription Policy.
