Does the NVIDIA GTX 1630 offer good gaming performance for 150 euros?

At last NVIDIA has released the “long-awaited” GTX 1630 and we put it in quotes because, honestly, at this point, no one expected to see a GTX that is less powerful than those already available on the market. And unless it is not part of the RTX series, and that is when we all thought that the transition to Ray Tracing and DLSS had already occurred throughout the range, they go from NVIDIA and surprise us with this GPU, which is Of course It is not aimed at the gaming market due to its benefits

For some time we have thought that the so-called input range is in danger of disappearing, the reasons are mainly two. First, they are not attractive in terms of margins for manufacturers. Regarding the second point, its performance is worse than expected and it seems that after several years there has been no evolution. This is the case of the new GTX 1630, based on a cut down version of the NVIDIA TU117 chip that we already saw in the GTX 1650. These chips are based on a version without RT Cores or Tensor Cores of the RTX 20, so they cannot increase their performance through DLSS. Although being honest, it is not the only problem that drags this graphics card, since its specifications fall short.

NVIDIA GTX 1630 performance disappoints

For us it makes no sense that in the middle of 2022 NVIDIA launches a graphics card with a performance that is no better than that of a GTX 1050 Ti from 2016. And it is that the specifications of the GTX 1630 are very poor in all its variants and it seems that NVIDIA has entered a war against Intel’s ARC 3 to see who performs the worst graphics card in the entry range. We do not believe that users deserve a graphics card with half the power of a GTX 1650 and more with AMD’s RX 6500 XT on the market.

Model NVIDIA GTX 1630
GPU TU-117-150
Architecture GTX Turing
SM cores 8
Texture Units 32
ROPS 16
tensor cores Nope
RT Cores Nope
base speed 1740MHz
boost speed 1785MHz
TDP 75W
Interface PCIe 3.0 x3

And this statement is not gratuitous on our part, the graphics card manufacturer INNO3D has made it clear. So, what is the existence of this model? The explanation that we see is simple and it is that AMD has not released, to everyone’s surprise, a Ryzen 6000G processor for socket AM4. If we had done it, we would have a processor with a more powerful graphics than this GTX 1630 and then it would not have a place. The other reason is the low performance of the integrated GPUs in the Intel Core 12, which means that a graphic support is needed for certain tasks. In any case, this does not justify launching a dedicated graphics card with such low performance.

Performance GTX 1630 1050 Ti

After more than five years, which is an eternity in the world of graphics, we believed that we would at least see performance equal to the GTX 1060 for less than €200 and we do not believe that our failed predictions were misguided within what was known. I could logically expect in that price range after waiting so long.
