Gears 6 is in development and will be exclusive to Xbox Series X-Series S and PC

The Coalition is working on Gears 6, the next installment in one of the best known and most beloved franchises in the world of video games. As many of our readers will remember, this saga debuted on Xbox 360 and quickly It became one of those titles “seller consoles” that propelled the Microsoft machine to the top. I’m not exaggerating, this console was able to achieve almost a tie in sales with its generational rival, PS3.

Over the years, the franchise has experienced moments of greater and lesser success, but in the end, the important thing is that It has always remained as a true benchmark within the genre. I must say that I have played all the installments, on different platforms, and that I have liked them all, although I also have to admit that Gears V was the one I liked the least despite the fact that it is technically the most advanced.

That Gears 6 is in development is no surprise, since after all it is one of the pillars of Xbox and the guys from The Coalition, the surprise comes because we knew that the studio was immersed in the development of two other projectsand therefore we did not expect to have an unofficial confirmation of the development of Gears 6 so soon.

This is good news, there is no doubt about it, but unfortunately we have bad news, and that is that The Coalition would have canceled those two projects in which he was working to focus solely on the development of Gears 6. This has an explanation, and as you may have guessed, it is deeply linked to the 10,000 layoffs that Microsoft carried out recently, and that affected different studios and companies of the company .

The information we have on Gears 6 is still somewhat scant, but we do know that it will be built on the Unreal Engine 5 and that it will be exclusive to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Since Gears 5 used “screen-space global illumination” with up to 32 rays on its Xbox One X and PC version, it is likely that in the next installment we will see the implementation of true hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

We do not know the launch date, but this factory has been maintaining a four-year renewal cycle, so a priori everything indicates that Gears 6 could arrive between 2023 and 2024since Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 arrived in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
