Genesis Xenon 800, analysis: lightness and precision

Lightness and, consequently, precision, are one of the most important aspects when deciding on one gaming device or another. At Genesis they know it, and that is why the main claim of the Genesis Xenon 800 is its lightness. We have previously had the opportunity to analyze other brand devices, such as the Genesis RX85 RGB, and they have always left us with very good feelings.

The Xenon 800 is part of the Genesis Xenon series, made up of 5 devices, all of them oriented towards gaming and with a fairly contained price.

Xenon 800 Specifications

Optical sensor PixArt PMW 3389
Sensitivity 200 – 16000 DPI

number of buttons 6
switches OMRON
Acceleration 50g
sampling rate 1000hz
Weight 58g – 79g

When we open the box we find the mouse, a second interchangeable panel, 12 weights of 2g each and the instruction manual. The two interchangeable panels differ in that one of them is solid and the other with holes, a honeycomb structure that we are already very used to in this type of device, which provides lightness and is the worst nightmare for people with trypophobia. Even putting the solid panel on, the sides of the Xenon 800 also have those holes, but they are much less visible. Also, whether you like that aesthetic or not, it is true that the difference in weight is noticeable.

An important detail is that this option to change the panel, in addition to allowing you to vary the weight and even the aesthetics of the mouse, helps to clean it more easily on the inside, without having to remove any screws.

It has a matte black finish, quite soft, and RGB lighting on the back and on the wheel. In addition to the finishes with hexagonal holes that we mentioned earlier on the sides, top (if you use that panel) and bottom. It also has a 1.8-meter cable made with a cord-type fabric, more flexible and lighter, making it quite comfortable when moving with the mouse.

In addition, the lower part has Teflon supports, which help the Xenon 800 glide better, something especially useful in fast movements. In the box, they also include a spare pack in black. And since we’ve flipped the mouse over, we found a switch that allows us to quickly toggle between 125, 500, and 1000 Hz. In my case, I’ve mostly configured this feature through software, so it seems like an option to me. expendable.

Lightness and ergonomics

Thanks to the tripophobic holes that we mentioned, the Xenon 800 reduces its weight to the maximum, with only 58 grams, which makes it one of the lightest mice on the market. In this way, it offers total control and very fast movements, especially when it comes to aiming and being precise in video games.

Its ergonomics are specially designed for right-handed users, for the way the fingers are arranged on the mouse, so that the grip is safer and more stable and, above all, that it is comfortable for hours and hours of use.

Inside the Xenon 800 we find a PMW3389 sensor, which Genesis presents as one of the best available on the market. This sensor guarantees a high level of precision and speed, again a feature specially designed for a gamer profile. The sensor features a resolution of up to 16000 DPI, an acceleration of 50G and a speed that reaches 400IPS (inches per minute).

The best surface with Carbon 700

In addition to all the specifications that we discussed and that help the mouse move and slide in the best possible way, we have had the opportunity to test it accompanied by the best companion, the Carbon 700 Maxi Cordura. This mat is made of a resistant and water-repellent fabric, very useful if you are a bit clumsy and spill your coffee on your computer.

It has a synthetic finish, through which the mouse glides very well and, thanks to its large size (920x420mm) it perfectly covers the space for the keyboard and mouse, also providing extra protection to your work table.

Versatility for everyone

But, if your profile is not so gamer, and you also want to use the mouse to work, you will like to know that the Xenon 800 is quite versatile. Thanks to its solid case and weights, you can increase the 58g we mentioned to a total of 79g, a load that a more casual user may be more used to. Similarly, the sensitivity ranges from 200 to 16,000 DPI (dots per inch), so your cursor will only go at the speed of light if you want it to.

As for buttons, we have a total of 6: the classic left and right, the click of the wheel, another just below it and two on the left, on one side. All of them programmable through the specific software for the Xenon800. In addition to two more programmable options, the scroll above and below the wheel, so we would have a total of 8 programmable shortcuts.

On the left and right buttons it has Omron switches, which have a useful life of up to 20 million clicks, so we have a mouse for a few years.

As for the wheel button, which allows us to change the DPI at any time, in the box we find an extra spare button, and two others in red that allow us to change the height and, obviously, the color.

More customization thanks to software

But if we really want to get the most out of the Xenon 800, its dedicated software is essential. With it we can configure the device down to the smallest detail: create different profiles with different button programming; adjust the sensitivity of the mouse and even in two different axes if we want it (vertical and horizontal); set different light effects; adjust different speeds, such as double click or scroll, among others; and, finally, configure macros that will be very useful for gaming sessions.

The software also allows you to configure the LOD (Launch Distance) in 3 levels, so you can have more control over the cursor when playing with low DPI. This way you won’t need to lift your mouse in the air to interrupt an unwanted cursor movement.

One thing that we have noticed is that the software is not in Spanish, and it is missing in order to refine the customization for users who do not control English so much.

conclusions

The Genesis Xenon 800 is a mouse especially geared towards gaming, both for technical specifications and for software, but it has a versatility that makes it a very good work partner. A device with good technical specifications, quality finishes, good ergonomics and extensive customization options that will meet the expectations of a wide spectrum of users.

Right now the Genesis Xenon 800 mouse can be purchased on the Genesis website in retail channels for a price of €42.99 and the Carbon 700 Maxi Cordura mat by €34.99.
