Gmail It has been the most used email provider in Spain for many years. It is perfectly adapted to use on mobile devices and computers. It has even had a version designed for slower Internet connections, in order to work better. However, Google has just announced that that version is going away. Therefore, if you have a connection that is not fast, you may have problems connecting from older systems.
It’s about the basic HTML version from Gmail. You can enter through its URL and, basically, you will see the content of your Google email account, but in a simpler version. It won’t load everything the same way it does when you go into the newer version. For example, you will not see the different categories, such as Main, Promotions or Social. Everything is more simplified.
Google removes the simple version of Gmail
This simpler version was ideal for those using a slower internet connection or they had a more limited system. However, Google has believed that it is the right time to end this version, since they consider that today it is not so necessary for users.
It is true that, logically, Internet connections are currently more powerful than a few years ago. So are the devices we use. Actually, in few cases we will need a reduced version like this. But of course, there are millions of users and not all of them have adequate equipment or connections. For example, someone may connect from a place with a very poor Internet connection or even use a certain computer to connect sometimes and it is not powerful.
For now, at least the next few months, you will continue to have the option of this basic HTML version of Gmail. Will be on January 2024 when they permanently eliminate it. From then on, when you enter the URL to access the simplified version, you will automatically be redirected to the standard version.
Prepare for change
If you are one of those who uses the basic HTML version of Gmail on a daily basis, our advice is that prepare for the change. You can try accessing the standard version and see if it works correctly for you or if, on the contrary, you have some limitation that prevents you from using it normally in your daily life.
For example, you might have problems with your Internet connection. Maybe the coverage is very weak and does not charge correctly. You can always even connect two routers to improve the network. The goal is to have a good coverage throughout the home and thus avoid problems of this type with the Internet connection.
Additionally, if the problem is in the system you use, it is key that you check what could happen. If you have very old equipment, you may not be able to fix it. However, in other cases you will be able to do it if you update the system, make sure there are no viruses and do not install too many programs that could affect it.
Therefore, Google has decided end basic version of Gmail, which was ideal for weak connections or limited systems. That will happen in January, so you have time to prepare your equipment and improve the connection to adapt it to the standard version.
