Less than a year after the release of its high-end Magic 4 and 4 Pro smartphones, Honor would be about to renew the series at the end of November with no less than three new devices.
Honor made an impression at MWC 2022 on February 28 by launching its high-end Magic 4 and 4 Pro in France. Despite their high price, the two devices had been able to shake up the competition, shortly after the return of the Chinese manufacturer to Europe. The Honor Magic 4 and 4 Pro then had to wait more than a month before arriving in China, but a new generation is already planned.
On social media, Honor officially announced a conference to be held on November 23. This will be an opportunity for the Chinese manufacturer to launch new high-end smartphones on the local market, the Honor Magic 5, Magic 5 Pro, and the Magic 5 Ultimate.

The Honor Magic 5 will use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip
Just before their official presentation, many details about the three smartphones have already been revealed, in particular by the leaker @RODENT950. First, according to him, the three devices will be launched with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the new high-end chip that Qualcomm will unveil on November 15.
As a reminder, this one will propose an arrangement of hearts 1+4+3, composed ofa Cortex-X3 Prime core clocked at 3.36 GHz, four Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and three Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. It will allow smartphones to be compatible with new technologies such as AV1 or the WiFi 7and will be accompanied by next-generation UFS 4.0 storage as well as the latest LPDDR5X RAM.
The Honor 5, 5 Pro and 5 Ultimate therefore promise to be very powerful, and the rest of their technical sheet is obviously also aimed at the most premium Android competitors. All models would benefit from a 6.8-inch screen signed BOEwith a resolution 1312 x 2848 pixels and one refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz thanks to an LTPO 2.0 panel. The brightness will however “only” reach 1100 nits, less than most of its rivals.
At the battery level, we can count on 4800mAh on all models, and the latter will be compatible with the 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. If the three smartphones share many common technical characteristics, it is especially on the photo side that the devices differ.
The Honor Magic 5 promise to shine in photos
The Honor Magic 4 Ultimate had topped the DXOMARK photo rankings for many months, and the new generation may well follow in the same footsteps. The classic Honor Magic 5 will be satisfied with three cameras, a 54 MP IMX800, a 50 MP IMX758 and a 64 M OV64B sensorP. The Honor Magic 5 Pro benefits from four cameras, including an IMX878 main sensor, a 50 MP IMX758 sensor, a 64 MP OV64B and an IMX516.
Finally, the Honor Magic 5 Ultimate promises to offer the best configuration, with no less than 5 different cameras. We will find the 50 MP 1-inch IMX989 from the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, an IMX758, an IMX516 and two other yet unknown sensors. One of them would have a variable opening.
As for the rest of their technical sheet, we can notably mention the presence of 3D facial recognition on the two most expensive modelsand a ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the Honor Magic 5 Ultimate. The latter will be made of “nano crystal glass” and ceramic, while the Magic 5 and 5 Pro models will be glass products, as well as vegan leather.
Honor is also preparing a new foldable smartphone
In addition to its main Magic 5 series, Honor will also replace its first foldable smartphone that was released earlier this year, the Magic V. A new device, the Honor Magic Vs, could arrive at the same time as the other three. devices.
The latter will probably be a minor update of the previous smartphone, but this time would be entitled to a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. We can regret the absence of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, but the latter will be reserved for a V2 model in 2023. According to the leaker, the Magic Vs should arrive in France from the beginning of 2023, and it will probably also be necessary to wait until next year before seeing the Magic 5 land with us.
