How to put a more secure code on the iPhone

iPhone security options aren’t just limited to the four-digit passcode. But, we also have the possibility of increasing that security using more complex codes. That’s why if you want protect (even more) the data on your phonecomplicating third-party access to your content, in this post we are going to show you how you can do it in a very simple way.

All the codes you want

The basic iPhone offers the possibility of configuring a code of figures with a determined duration. In this case, they are usually four or six figures. But we don’t always have to be limited for that many numbers. And we don’t have to be limited by using only numbers either. Of course, keep in mind that all the codes can always be “skipped”, if we authenticate with Touch ID or with Face ID. So security will always be guaranteed.

The fact of having more than four figures in a code will make access to our personal data much more complicated. And if we add biometric sensors to the security of the code itself, and all the Apple ID protection tools (two-step verification, lost mode, Find my iPhone, etc.), our phone will become a bunker ( even more) inaccessible.

So you can change the code of the iPhone

When we have configured a code on our phone, we can always change it from the settings. That is why we should go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode (if our iPhone has Face ID) or Settings> Touch ID and code (if our iPhone has Touch ID). When we access this menu, the first thing we must do is write our security code. Once we have entered it, an options menu will appear, and we have to look for Change code.

When we have clicked on this option, we will see how we are asked to enter a new code. However, we have to press the text that says Code Options. Here we will be allowed to select between the following options:

  • 4-digit numeric code
  • 6-digit numeric code
  • Custom alphanumeric code
  • custom numeric code

The two most interesting options, beyond the 6-digit code are the personalized codes. In these two cases, we can set the number of characters we choose, beyond the six digits. For one thing, the custom numeric code consists only of numbers. The custom alphanumeric code includes letters, numbers and special characters. Although it may seem like a trivial detail, emoticons are not allowed. But we can use the symbols and punctuation marks of the keyboards that we have activated.

In this way, we will have to enter the code that we want, and once it is configured, it will be our method of unlocking the iPhone. Of course, remember that if you want to change the code again from the settings, you will have to enter that new code. Even so, you should also know that, even if you enter a long code, you will not need to write it every time you want to access your iPhone, since if we have configured biometric authentication by Touch ID or Face ID, we will be able to access our iPhone with these methods.
