It is possible that on more than one occasion you have wanted to record what happens on your computer screen and you do not know how. Actually, this is a pretty straightforward process thanks to one of Microsoft’s operating system integrations. Within Windows we have the Xbox Game Bar tool which, among other things, allows us record screen.
Microsoft has a habit of adding solutions created for its console to its operating system and vice versa. Some are unnecessary, but some are quite interesting. In this case, it is a very interesting function, especially if you are a fan of video games.
Taking advantage of the Xbox Game Bar
Complement integrated in Windows 10 and 11 that allows us to access information and perform actions within a game. Among other things, it indicates the consumption of the processor and graphics cards, allows us to take screenshots, record the screen and many other things.
We are going to focus on how to record the screen through the Xbox Game Bar, something that is really simple. Said function, it should be noted that it is designed for games, but that allows you to record the browser or simply the desktop.
To start using the Xbox Game Bar we must:
- Write Xbox Game Bar in Windows Finder or press the keys at the same time Windows+G of our keyboard
- A bar with different options will appear at the top of our screen
- Let’s go to the option Setting which is the gear-shaped icon that we will see more to the right
- From the options in the left column, we will go to the option of capturing
- We select the option record in the background while I play. What this allows is to make a recording of the game or the desktop without having the top bar always visible
- Without leaving here, we go to the option of sound to be recorded. We select to record the sound of the game plus the microphone, that of the game, microphone, applications and system or none, as we want
- we close the Setting and now we have to click on the capture icon. This is a square with a base and a circle in the center, representing a webcam. It is usually quite to the left of the bar
- A window opens and there we must click on start recording which is a white circle within a larger circle. We can also use the keyboard shortcut: Windows + Alt + R
- Once the recording starts, a four of them will appear on the right. catch status where it tells us how long we have been recording the screen
- When we want to finish, we just have to click on Arrest which is a little white square next to the recording time
- All recordings can be displayed on See my catches that can be opened from the widget or we can go to the folder Videos
Customize shortcuts
Something that this Widget also allows us is the customization of the quick accesses. By default they are based on the Windows key on our keyboard and the combination with other keys. If you want to modify it, it allows you, with a simple rule.
We always have to start the quick access configuration with one of these three keys on our keyboard: Alt / Ctrl (control) / Shift (capital letters). Immediately afterwards, we can put the key or keys of our keyboard that we want.
We have to follow the following steps to do so:
- Open the Xbox Game Bar by combining Win+G
- Let’s go to the Setting (rightmost gear wheel of the bar)
- Click on Shortcuts which is in the left column
- Here we can customize the shortcuts for these functions:
- Open Xbox Game Bar
- Take a screenshot
- Record last 30 seconds
- start/stop recording
- Mic on/off
