We are quite tired of seeing new headphones that do not provide anything new either in terms of design or performance. For this reason, finding a model as particular as the Huawei FreeBuds 5 is always good news. And it turns out that this proposal has just come to light, boasting a rather particular aspect, a way to differentiate yourself in the saturated sound market and that surely serves to make more than one turn their heads.
FreeBuds 5, Huawei’s drop design
«Waterdrop design«. This is how the Asian house has baptized the new design of its headphones that seems to be inspired, according to what they point out in Android Authority, in the famous drops of Prince Rupert. In this way they look quite particular and different from what we usually see in the headphone sector, and whose closest model would in any case be Samsung’s Buds Live -yes, the ones that were shaped like beans.
Huawei claims to have done a lot of experimentation, analyzing thousands of ears to arrive at this design that, it says, will fit perfectly in your ears comfortably and without being heavy. Although they may throw you back at first, remember that something similar happened with the Live Buds mentioned above: their appearance made many think that they would be terribly uncomfortable, however, later they showed that they were more than just a different design and that they they could be worn perfectly in the ear without problems.
In terms of technical features, these new True Wireless come with dynamic controllers with double 11 mm magnetic circuit, they integrate three microphones and do not forget about active noise cancellation (allowing the configuration of various profiles) present even when making calls.
They enjoy a battery capable of enduring about 5 hours without cancellation and up to 3 and a half hours with this function activated. If we have its charging case (with a beautiful oval design, according to what it contains, with support for both wired and wireless charging), then autonomy extends up to 30 hours without cancellation and up to 20 hours with it. Fast charging is not forgotten in this technical sheet, with 2 hours of power shot with just 5 minutes of charging.
The FreeBuds do not forget about high-resolution LDAC support, as well as L2HC (this audio codec has been patented by Huawei itself) and enjoy spatial audio when used with phones running HarmonyOS 3.
Price and availability of the new headphones
If you think they are going to be your next wireless headphone, know that it won’t take long to hunt them down. And it is that the FreeBuds 5 will be available in Europe from April 17 for a price of 159 euros.
